Dear friends, this is Cinnamon. She was the kitty that helped me to believe we could actually be a ‘cat family’. From the moment she arrived at only three weeks old she was literally constantly looking at us straight into our eyes. She would consistently look at us and it was as if she no that we would fall in love with her if she was so connecting to us. Of course, her original bright blue eyes have faded, but her very beautiful tortoiseshell cat markings are really showing off lately. Her very loving personality and actually quite cuddly self, made it very easy for her to be the first kitten that we chose to keep. I wanted to name her Millie or LuLu, but I was outvoted. That’s ok. It’s just a name, right. 🌸❤️ She likes to sit on my notepad while I work. On this particular day if the tight spot, but I decided to see how close I could get to her I missed her little Halloween cat stretch in full but that’s also no worries, I’ll get it again another time in allall its glory because it’s extra cute. 😉

A tortoiseshell cat’s coat colors are directly linked to the X chromosomes. That’s why male torties are so rare (and when you do see a male, he’s almost always sterile). A dilute tortie like our cat Lily in this video is especially rare. 🤍🐾

A reunion that will make you reach for the tissue box..! 🥹 When an elderly tortoiseshell cat was found, presumed stray, and brought in after the recent flooding in Auckland, we scanned her for a microchip, as is standard procedure. We were delighted to find she had one, and immediately made contact with the registered owner. Assuming she had been missing a few days during the flood event, you can imagine our surprise when her human, Hannah, told us her cat had been missing over a year! Hannah rushed into our Auckland Centre to make sure it was her girl, Rosie, and as you can see... there was no doubt about it. Microchips make happy reunions like this possible, whether your animal has been missing a day or a year. Please - check yours has a microchip AND that your contact details are registered and kept up to date when anything changes. As you can see... for the animals involved, it will mean the world.

🐾 Happy National Black Cat Day! 🐾 Meet Betsy, our beautiful black cat in residence here at Scotney Castle. 😺 Betsy came to us in 2016 from @catsprotection_tunbridgewells and she’s been charming visitors and staff ever since. She took up the important role of resident cat after Betty Hussey’s last feline companion, Puss, passed away at the grand age of 19. When Betty passed away in 2006, she asked that her beloved tortoiseshell cat, Puss, remain here under the care of the National Trust, and we were honoured to do so. ❤️ Have you met Betsy at Scotney, or spotted any of Betty’s feline friends, from trinkets and artwork to the statue on the fountain outside, there are many? #NationalBlackCatDay #ScotneyCastle #CatsOfInstagram #NationalTrust #CatsProtection #BlackCatMagic #HistoricHomes #CatLovers
