Unlike many other toy lines in my collection, I never owned any Toxic Crusaders figures as a kid. And yet, they’ve become one of my absolute favorites.
A big part of that is the design. Playmates had already proven with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles that they could create some of the craziest characters imaginable, and with Toxic Crusaders, they pushed that creativity even further. Bright colors, outrageous mutations, over-the-top accessories… every figure is packed with personality.
That’s one of the things I love most about toy lines from the ‘80s and ‘90s. Toy companies weren’t afraid to take risks. They weren’t trying to make everything realistic—they were focused on creating toys that were fun, imaginative, and instantly recognizable.
Even without the nostalgia factor, Toxic Crusaders has earned a special place in my collection. It just goes to show that some toy lines don’t need childhood memories to become favorites.
What about you? Is there a toy line you never owned as a kid but love collecting today? I’d love to hear your picks!

So, I finally took the plunge!
I’ve officially got myself a cabinet at the Exeter Trading Hub.
Don't worry, I’m definitely still doing the toy shows—I love attending them too much to stop!
But this just means you don't have to wait for the next show to hunt for vintage toys, you can pop in and get your retro fix whenever you fancy.
If you grew up in the 80s or 90s, it’s well worth a look. I've packed the shelves with proper classics—loads of He-Man, Turtles, Toxic Crusaders, and plenty of other bits of childhood nostalgia. 🐢
If you’re around the Exeter area, definitely pop down, grab a coffee, and have a little browse.
Drop a comment if you manage to head down, and let me know what you spot! 👇
