Because I said so”? Let’s talk about the TradDad-the dad who raised us to survive, not just to feel good. Today, we’re talking about the TradDad-the dad who never asked what you wanted for dinner, never called you his hero, and definitely never said, “One more story, then bedtime.” For the TradDad, “Because I said so” is a full sentence. Apologies are not negotiable, bedtime is not up for debate, and the car WILL turn around if you push it. This is the dad who knows he’s your parent, not your friend. He’s not your emotional support animal-he’s the guy who’s raising an adult who can survive in the wild. He’s strict, yes, but he’s got a point: sometimes, life isn’t fair. Who’s down for a trad dad comeback? 🙋
HERE 👇🏼 As parents of 5 kids ages 11-22 we have learned ✨Influence matters.✨ Double ❤️❤️ if you agree. Who you surround yourself with impacts Who you are How you act Who you become & What you believe in. And that’s why your community is so important. And that’s why we have intentionally developed family friendships over the past 22 years. ✨In the young years of parenting and homeschooling we naturally gravitated towards friendships with likeminded families. They typically had similar age ranges of kids and because of that there was typically many varying ages and the kids all learned to play together. ✨Our kids have never been trapped in age specific friendships. Because we have chosen family friendships our kids have learned to be friends with sibling groups. Similar ages naturally gravitate to one another but younger and older siblings aren’t excluded because it’s always been normal to play, and hang out, together. ✨When you pour into friendships with like minded families you’ll develop friendships with the parents. When parents are friends you’ll have the benefit of knowing where that family stands on issues. Morals and values, what’s considered acceptable or not, and worldview all impact how a child is raised. ✨Developing a friendship with the parents provides the added benefit of friendship for the kids. This also helps to ✨cultivate a family culture of togetherness. Yes, even in the teen years. Of course the kids will do things on their own but being raised in likeminded community lowers the odds that your kids will scoff at families hanging with families in the older years. Parents won’t be the enemies they’ll be a welcomed part of the family culture you’ve intentionally cultivated. How have we found these friendships over the years? ✨Homeschool groups ✨Church ✨Mutual friends ✨Social media (yes, some of our dearest friends were developed through social media!) My guy who does it all! read ⬇️ He was being silly, but him actually making the bread is TOTALLY serious! 🥖 They’re really good and come out perfect everytime. 😀 This guy cooks, cleans, parents with gentleness, fills out forms (I hate doing that) washes clothes and loves me and all of us to the 🌙 in his sweet way. He also left our NYC home and came along to live with his n’laws. Which I’m sure was never part of his dream plan. But he did it for me and for our family and for that I will never forget. So grateful for you babe and for sticking with us on this transitional journey.
