The Louisiana Hot 4, led by swingin’ veteran multi-instrumentalist and vocalist Janet Shaw, performs every Saturday afternoon 2-4pm in the C’est What Beer Garden. Featured guest yesterday was Nolan Murphy on trombone. You have four more chances to see this group outdoors this year as this summer series wraps up on September 26 (the Hot Five Jazzmakers will return to C’est What in October). No, I didn’t make it to Golden Gate Park to see Dead and Co, Billy Strings, Sturgill Simpson and Trey Anastasio. But I made it to Pittsburgh to see my soon-to-be 90 year old dad fulfill a lifelong dream by playing trad jazz at Kennywood Park. That’s Dixie Doc and The Pittsburgh All Stars.
