🚆 Quick transit tip for Vancouver! One of the most common mistakes people make on the Skytrain is getting on a train without checking the direction. Sometimes trains split. Sometimes the same platform serves multiple destinations. In episode 3 of our Transit Lab series, Chris Chan from @translink explains simple simple ways to help you always choose the right train. It only takes a few seconds but it can save you a long trip in the wrong direction. Have you ever made this mistake? Tell us in the comments! #VancouverLife #SkyTrain #MyTransLink
👇The transit network from UBC all the way to New Westminster, Vancouver and Burnaby is all part of the “Burrard Peninsula Area Transportation Plan,” or BPATP for short. Movement’s Transit Riders were consulted on the plan and we are pleased to see that many of our ideas were included! 1️⃣ Major improvements to transit in South Vancouver!! 🚌A new bus route on 54th/57th Ave! 💨A new 49 RapidBus was the most favoured response in public engagement, this would help move people much faster and demonstrate that transit riders’ time is valuable. 🖍️Improvements and more direct service to connect to Southeast Vancouver 2️⃣ We love Action 3.3.1 which begs the cities to implement transit priority measures to make buses faster and more reliable. 3️⃣ This plan would include a huge increase in service, with better access to parks via the new Stanley Park Loop route and a direct bus to Spanish Banks, and new express routes across the region! 4️⃣ The BPATP considers connections to future major projects including the Broadway Skytrain Extension to UBC, the Burnaby Mountain Gondola, and Bus Rapid Transit, but funding for all of these infrastructure projects hasn’t yet been committed by any level of government. Vancouver is so lovely 😭💖 the automated Skytrains are just next level, we’ve only had to wait like 1 min for one, and taking it directly from the airport was soooo convenient. The buses are nice too! All metro rail systems should be automated!!! I am ruined forever.
In Burnaby, British Columbia, TransLink unveiled what it described as a “new, affordable bus model” designed to reduce costs and improve efficiency across select routes in Burnaby and Coquitlam. The rollout immediately drew attention after footage surfaced showing an unconventional boarding system. Instead of a traditional enclosed vehicle, passengers were seen being transported on an open, flatbed-style platform. Dozens of riders crowded together as the vehicle prepared to depart, raising questions about safety, comfort, and transit standards. Transit officials stated that the initiative was part of a temporary pilot project aimed at lowering operational expenses while addressing increased demand. However, residents expressed concern over the apparent lack of seating, protective barriers, and weather coverage. While TransLink has not confirmed whether the model will expand to other municipalities, the incident has sparked debate about cost-cutting measures and the future of public transportation infrastructure in Metro Vancouver. #translink #burnaby #coquitlam #vancouver #bc

Vancouver Translink line 5 towards downtown spotted by @olibassdude !!!
The 49 needs fixing. It is our regions # 1 most popular bus route!! The City of Vancouver just proposed new bus lanes on 49th avenue. We’re left wondering why it’s only between Cambie and Fraser. That’s 1.9km of bus move smoothly along a 20km corridor. Bus lanes are an incredibly cost effective way to triple the people moving capacity of a lane, improving transit and reducing traffic congestion. At this rate it will be years before the 49 is truly fixed. HELP US tell the City of Vancouver that this is good but not enough! The survey is only open until MARCH 1st, but there’s so much you can do, check out our website to learn more. This is not enough!!
Another Transit Hot take🔥 Edmonton has an excellent LRT system, but don’t take our word for it, take Mayor Marchand’s. And with future expansions, it’s only getting better🙌🏻👏🏻
