Stop trying to get your hand to the floor in triangle pose!
The real goal is creating length through your side body. Think "out and over" instead of "down." Keep your hand on your shin or thigh if you need to. Quality of length beats depth every time.

Want to completely change how triangle pose feels? Try it against a wall!
Press both heels against the wall, step out just an inch, then move into the pose. That wall keeps you honest and helps you find a much deeper stretch through the outside of your hip.

Extended Side Angle Pose — Utthita Parsvakonasana
This posture isn’t just about getting your hand to the floor. It’s about building a strong foundation through the legs while creating length through the side body.
Before reaching down, focus on grounding the feet, stabilizing the legs, and allowing the torso to extend out over the front thigh.
Length first. Depth later.
That’s where the pose becomes steady and spacious.
👣📏 When you have your feet out of alignment, your body is out of alignment, and when you have your feet in alignment, your body is in alignment. Your body is in alignment. Give this tip a try and let me know how it goes in the comments below.

Triangle Pose doesn’t improve by going lower —
it improves by stacking smarter.
Try this:
• Feet about 3-4 ft apart
• Keep your hand outside the front foot or top of ankle/shin
• Stack your spine over the front leg, stack the shoulders
• Let the chest open naturally

Flexible : "to bend or change easily"
Flexibility vs rigidity.
We can be flexible in life or we can be rigid in life. Each offers us something valuable. When it comes to alignment we can apply this same principle. While we always aim to maintain tadasana as the postural blueprint, there's wiggle room to explore different expressions the celebrate our own unique bodies.
Seek and ye shall find.
Heres @shawntayloryoga breaking it down in a twist 🔬
Your knee placement in tree pose matters more than you think! If your knee drifts forward, you're compensating. Keep that knee pointing out to the side with open hips. This creates beautiful hip opening AND gives you a much better foundation to balance from.

If a yoga pose feels like you have to force it… you're probably missing the real work.
Yoga isn’t about how deep you go. It’s about how much space you create.
In class today we explored Triangle Pose with curiosity instead of force.
When we stop chasing depth and start looking for length, stability, and breath, the pose changes completely.
And here’s the beautiful thing about yoga:
Even if you’ve practiced a pose hundreds of times, there is always something new to notice.
A little more space in the ribs.
A little more grounding through the feet.
A more relaxed neck and jaw.
A quieter breath.
A smile. ☺️
Yoga isn’t about mastering poses.
It’s about continuing to explore them.
And ENJOY them.
🕉️Make your twisting triangle more accessible AND safer by doing these three things that will enable you to access the pose AND feel it more deeply in your body.
🕉️Starting in half-pyramid is key to the pose b/c they are like peanut butter & jelly — a delicious match!
🕉️Use blocks! They make the pose more accessible, which enhances the ability to breathe.
🕉️Make sure you twist from the upper back, not the lower back, and revolve through the ribcage.

Common mistakes I see in prayer twist are dumping the chest & opening the hips. Remember, we always want to focus on posture.. a long lengthen spine, chest open, core engaged while keeping the pelvis neutral. 🙌 #yogatutorial #yoga #posture #howtoyoga #yogapose
Utthita Parsvakonasana ~ Extended Side Angle Pose
Why use a block in the bottom hand?
🌼 Keeps the spine long
If the floor is too far away, you can collapse forward, bring the body out of alignment.
🌼The block “brings the floor up” so the torso can stay open and lengthened.
🌼Opens the chest more
With the extra height, the chest can rotate upward instead of dropping down.
🌼This improves thoracic spine mobility and shoulder opening
🌼Better core engagement
When the hand isn’t dumping weight into the floor, the obliques and deep core have to support the side body.
🌼Protects the front knee
Maintaining proper alignment helps keep the knee stacked over the ankle instead of collapsing inward.
🌼Deeper side-body stretch
Creates a long line from back heel right along the leg, side torso and up the entire arm to those gorgeous fingers
🌼Strengthens legs
The bent front leg strengthens the glutes and quads, while the back leg strengthens the inner thighs and ankle stabilizers.
Yoga blocks have 3 heights:
🌻Highest – beginner or tight hips
🌻Medium – most common
🌻Lowest – almost floor level but
Still elevated some
