Currently, the Ukrainian city of Uman hosts a unique annual pilgrimage: Hasidic Jews are celebrating Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year. Uman is the burial site of Rebbe Nachman of Breslov, a great-grandson of the founder of Hasidism and the founder of the Breslov Hasidic movement. Followers believe that spending the New Year near their spiritual master ensures a blessed, successful, and spiritually pure year ahead.
