How Blind People in Japan Navigate Using Yellow Tactile Lines
In Japan, yellow tactile paving lines — called tenji blocks — are found on sidewalks, train stations, and public buildings. These raised patterns help visually impaired people move safely and independently.
There are two main types of blocks: straight lines indicate a safe walking path, while dotted or circular patterns warn of intersections, stairs, or platform edges. The textures can be felt through a cane or underfoot, giving clear directional cues.
Japan’s cities maintain these paths carefully, and announcements or braille signs often accompany them. Together, they create an inclusive environment that helps everyone navigate public spaces confidently.

Trying out my new FF6 side cutters from @nickerson_pms this morning. They're so sharp, and the perfect size for the intricate cuts needed for finishing off a basket. Especially on the inside!
.
Thanks for the recommendation @brigitgraham 🙌
.
Also, this basket was made using nothing but 5ft old French and dickie meadows willow left over from last weekends workshops. Still lovely and workable. Traditional English underfoot base as demonstrated by @catherinebeaumont_basketmaker
.
Such a wonderful supportive network of basket makers on Instagram 🙌🙌🙌
.
This one is for sale if anybody would like it.
