On 3/29/26 at 20:03 (8:03 PM), Lower Valley Fire District was dispatched to the area of Highway 6 & 50 and Slickrock Dr for a brush fire. Upon arrival, crews found fire burning throughout the wash, including a large tree. Brush 31, Brush 32, and Water Tender 32 quickly worked to contain and extinguish the fire. Great job to Green Crew for knocking down one of the first brush fires of the season. Unfortunately, this likely won’t be the last—conditions are already lining up for an active fire season. Please remember: 🔥 No burning during open burn bans — and always check air quality, it is your responsibility 🚫 Don’t toss cigarettes out the window 🌬 Be mindful of wind conditions Let’s all do our part to keep our community safe. #IncidentAlert #BrushFire #FireSeason #StaySafe #LowerValleyFire #BrushSeason #WildlandFire #LowerValleyFireDepartment #SaferFruita #MesaCounty
On Friday, March 20, 2026, at 4:13 p.m., South Metro Fire Rescue and the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office responded to a small vegetation fire along northbound Santa Fe Drive, just south of Highlands Ranch Parkway. Initial reports indicated a 50’ x 50’ fire spreading at a moderate rate to the north and east. Crews quickly worked to contain the fire, bringing it under control by 4:24 p.m. The fire area was estimated at approximately 100’ x 50’. No structures were threatened, and no injuries were reported. Northbound Santa Fe was closed for a short time during suppression effort and has since been reopened. The cause of the fire is currently unknown. With unseasonably hot and dry conditions across our area, vegetation is especially susceptible to ignition and rapid fire spread. Even a small spark—from a cigarette, trailer chain, equipment, or vehicle—can quickly start a fire. Please use extreme caution outdoors: avoid activities that can create sparks, properly dispose of smoking materials, secure trailer chains, and ensure equipment is in good working order. If you see smoke or fire, call 911 immediately.
At 4:21pm SVFD was toned out to a field fire in a local subdivision that was nearby homes. We responded with Brush 1, Tactical Tender 2, Tender 1 and Engine 4 with a total of six volunteers as well as Chief Crystal. Upon arrival Engine 4 was put on structure protection as well as preventing the fire from spreading further with a hose line while Brush 1 went to the opposite side to do the same. The fire was contained and extinguished within minutes of our arrival! We remained on scene for another hour and a half to do mop up and check for hot spots. Due to the quick response of a homeowner calling 911 we were able to get there before it spread further. This is a friendly reminder that while it’s early March, with our dry and mild winter wild fires are expected to continue and can spread extremely rapidly with high winds like we had today. Please take caution if you plan to do a burn pile, and wait to do it until we have a less windy day and always have water nearby. Thank you to our amazing volunteers who dropped what they were doing to respond, we don’t know what we’d do without you ❤️‍🔥 And, volunteers are ALWAYS needed. If you’ve ever wanted to give back to your community, make a little extra money on the side and become friends with some awesome people volunteering might be for you! Brush Fire Quickly Contained Near RidgeGate Parkway On Saturday, March 21 at 3:19 p.m., officers responded to a large brush fire near South Peoria Street and RidgeGate Parkway, alongside South Metro Fire Rescue, Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, and the Douglas County Office of Emergency Management. Multiple 911 callers reported a fire moving south from RidgeGate Parkway. Due to fire behavior and conditions, the incident was quickly upgraded to a fast-moving brush fire, prompting additional resources. Crews stopped forward progress and brought the fire under control by 3:51 p.m., limiting the burn area to approximately 20 acres. No injuries were reported, and no structures were damaged. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the South Metro Fire Rescue Fire Marshal’s Office. Fire Safety Reminder: With hot temperatures, low humidity, and dry conditions, fires can start easily and spread rapidly. Please avoid activities that may create sparks, properly dispose of smoking materials, and follow all local fire restrictions. The Lone Tree Police Department and South Metro Fire Rescue demonstrated their strong partnership during this response. Officers handled traffic control and scene security, allowing fire crews to focus on containment. Through seamless coordination, the fire was quickly controlled and the public remained safe. We appreciate our partnership with South Metro Fire Rescue and all of the assisting agencies.
* GRASS FIRE WITH EXTENSION TO UTILITY TRAILERS * Today around 3:30PM, crews were dispatched to Old Pendleton Road near Denise Road for reports of a grass fire. Upon arrival, the grass fire had spread up to multiple utility trailers and miscellaneous materials. Crews used two pre-connected hose lines from E7 to start fire attack. The heat from the fire caused siding to begin melting off a nearby home. Crews checked for extension using a thermal imaging device and no further damage was located. On scene operations lasted for approximately one and a half hours.
🔥 Wildfire danger is year-round. It only takes one spark to start a fire, even from something small like a shovel hitting a rock near dry brush. Make sure your go bag is ready and your family knows what to do in an emergency. For more info, visit RiversideCA.gov/Wildfire. #JoinRFD #ILoveRiverside #WildfirePreparedness

In the early morning hours of 3/25/26 at 04:03, Lower Valley Fire crews were dispatched to a semi truck fire on I-70 at Mile Marker 214. Upon arrival, crews found the vehicle on fire and worked quickly to bring it under control and prevent further spread. Engine 32 and Water Tender 31 responded alongside Grand County EMS and Utah State Patrol, and crews operated on scene to safely mitigate the incident. Incidents like these highlight the importance of early notification, coordinated response, and working together across agencies to keep our roadways and community safe. We appreciate our partner agencies for their assistance and remind drivers to always stay alert, slow down, and move over for emergency personnel working on the roadway. #FireResponse #I70 #SemiFire #MutualAid #PublicSafety #FirstResponders #SlowDownMoveOver #LowerValleyFireDepartment #CommunitySafety 🚒
Yesterday, two engines were toned out to extinguish a roadside brush fire along I-40, while a third engine responded to a separate brush fire within city limits. With dry vegetation and windy conditions, it doesn’t take much to spark a fire. Dragging trailer chains can throw sparks onto dry grass, and tossing heat sources — such as cigarettes or other burning materials — out of vehicle windows can ignite roadside fuels within seconds. Please help us prevent unnecessary emergencies: ✅ Secure trailer chains so they do not drag. ✅ Properly dispose of cigarettes and other smoking materials. ✅ Never throw heat-producing items from your vehicle. ✅ Report visible smoke or fire immediately. A small spark can quickly become a large incident. Let’s all do our part to keep our roadways and community safe.
On March 17, SCFD1 along with the assistance of Valley Center Fire responded to a report of a garage fire. Quint 32 found a fully involved van fire next to a fully stocked wood shed on fire upon arrival. Crews were able to quickly get the fire under control and tore apart the wood pile to save what wasn't burning. Thankfully nobody was hurt!
