I thought this ceiling was a little boring so I added the cottage beams of my dreams! 2.7m throughout your home is a great starting point and already makes a noticeable difference to how every room feels. But if you can add a raked ceiling in your living area you won’t regret it. The volume it creates is something you feel the moment you walk in. It’s one of the best decisions we made in our build and I’d do it again without hesitation. After 20 years of hosting, I knew exactly what I wanted when we finally had the chance to design a kitchen from scratch. Every kitchen we’ve ever had has been put to work. Cooking for crowds, entertaining weekly, and naturally being the place where family and friends gather. So when we finally had the opportunity to design one from scratch, I knew exactly what I wanted it to do. I kept coming back to the famous @inagarten barn kitchen for inspiration. I loved the warmth, the beams, the vaulted ceiling, and that collected, traditional feeling. I wanted a space that could handle a lot of cooking and hosting with ease, but still feel warm, comfortable, collected, and traditional. Beautiful enough to feel special, but never formal or precious. So much of what we chose was about creating that balance. Plenty of workspace. Plenty of seating. A layout that keeps people close without putting everyone in the middle of the cooking. The goal was always for people to feel like they could pull up a chair and settle in for a while. So many of you have asked about the pieces in this space, and I’ve pulled together the lighting, seating, appliances, artwork, and other details that help give it that feel. Some are the exact pieces we used, and for anything that’s no longer available, I found the closest lookalikes I could. Almost 10 years ago, when I renovated the Sage home, I had a vision for a hood that would run all the way up to the vaulted ceiling. But after four quick months of gut-renovating the house for an HGTV pilot, exhaustion set in and that final detail never got done…UNTIL THIS WEEK!! Our friend Alan @damatorenovation (fun fact: Alan was on both my shows and part of the original gut renovation) came back and built the hood exactly how I imagined it. While we were at it, Mr. Yolo gave the walls a fresh coat of creamy paint, and I love how it looks!! Phase one is complete ✅ Next, I’m saying goodbye to the farmhouse look, swapping out all the black hardware and lighting for brass, and adding a pot rail. Now I’m figuring out what to do with the wall. Should I go for a plate wall or try something completely different? I’m open to ideas! What do you think? #thesagehomemke #jenniyolohome
