Living in Frederick, Maryland means having places like Carroll Creek right in your backyard.
One of the things that surprises people most when they visit is this 1.5-mile creek walk running right through downtown.
Restaurants, breweries, coffee shops, and distilleries all line the water, and most of them are just a few minutes from each other on foot.
It’s one of those spots where you can start with a casual walk and end up grabbing dinner, a drink, or dessert without ever needing your car.
This is the kind of everyday lifestyle a lot of people don’t expect from a smaller city outside DC and Baltimore.

Baltimore gets all the attention… but Frederick locals know what we’ve got here.
A historic downtown you can actually walk.
Restaurants and coffee shops packed into a few blocks.
Breweries, patios, and live music most weekends.
And a creek walk running right through the middle of it all.
It’s the kind of place where a quick walk turns into dinner, a drink, and running into someone you know.
Close enough to the city when you want it.
But a completely different pace of life.

Fredericksburg’s rich history can be explored in many ways, including on a self-guided walking tour through the historic district. Founded in 1846 by German immigrants, the town is home to more than 700 historically significant buildings, including museums, shops, churches, and charming Sunday Houses once used by early settlers when they came into town for church and business.
You can pick up a walking tour map at the Visitor Information Center or download one online to guide your exploration.
As you tour, please respect private property, as some buildings are private homes or paid-entry sites. For safety, remember to use designated crosswalks when crossing streets.
