Max’s surprise to realise that I released Khaya-Cheza on Defected in the House volume 1 along side Salif Keita & Martin Solveig-Madan, Delgado-Coffee Beats, Kaskade-It’s You It’s Me, Sandy Riviera, Grant Nelson, Brian Tappert…. Was really cool.
He very often reminds me of things that I have kinda forgotten to be excited about.
This was the very first Defected in the House compilation released in 2003 and Cheza was one of the earliest examples of the Afro House sound that’s exploded today.
23years later it still sounds fresh, progressive and ground breaking.
I produced it with my good friend Jethro East and features the incredible vocal power of Mapumba Chilimbo and drums by Biziko Dongo.
