Have you ever seen a platypus before? Although naturally shy, platypus (Ornithorhynchus anatinus) can be found in many lakes and waterways across Victoria. The best time to see a platypus is at dawn or dusk, so bring a pair of binoculars and time your visit to give yourself the best chance of success 🌅 If you’d like a chance to spot a platypus in the wild, head to: 📍 The Yarra River at Warrandyte State Park (Wurundjeri Country) 📍 Lake Elizabeth in the Great Otway National Park (Eastern Maar Country) 📍 Creeks and rivers in the Snowy River National Park (Gunaikurnai Country) and Alpine National Park (includes the traditional lands of the Taungurung and Gunaikurnai People) Platypus love freshwater rivers, creeks and lakes and their favourite places have muddy banks with lots of plants growing on them. You’ll never find a platypus swimming in polluted water, as they get sick when water isn’t healthy. Litter like fishing line can tangle around and harm platypus. Our rangers and friends care for this habitat by removing litter and planting shrubs near waterways. You can help by walking your dog on a leash and putting your rubbish in the bin. ⚠️ Nature being nature, sometimes conditions can change at short notice. Stay safe in Vic national parks, reserves and waterways. Before you travel, plan by visiting Parks Victoria for potential alerts or closures.
Easy nature walk near Melbourne 🍃✨ - Located just 40 minutes the Melbourne in Warrandyte State Park, the Blue Tongue Bend Nature Walk is an easy 4km loop that’s perfect for families! This scenic trail follows the Yarra River through peaceful bushland and rocky cliffs with plenty of river views, native birdlife and quiet spots to stop and take it all in along the way. Starting at Jumping Creek Reserve, this beautiful walk takes you Blue Tongue Bend which is a great spot to stop for lunch and returns back to the carpark via a fire trail. Once back at the carpark, spend some time at the riverside lookout and go for a swim if it’s a hot day! - #visitmelbourne #visitvictoria #warrandyte #melbournehikes #seeaustralia

Putting yourself out there is always a bit daunting, but this week I’ve been so blown away by how many local cafes and small businesses in #Warrandyte, #Eltham and #Research have happily said yes to helping me spread the word about the first @subject__object Market by taking my little flyers and sharing them with their community. If you’re coming along this Saturday 6 December, 10am–2pm at the Warrandyte Mechanics Hall, please show these cafes some love while you’re in the area. Grab a coffee, brunch or just say hi - it all makes a difference. (And if you can’t make it Sat, bookmark this so you know which places to go to next time you’re nearby) Huge thanks to: Warrandyte legends @warrandytestonehousecafe @fieldday.warrandyte @georges_milkbar @warrandytebridgecafe @amandajean.hair @nowandnotyetcafe @cocoa_moon_cafe_warrandyte Warrandyte Bakery and the Warrandyte Post Office. And in Research, a special shout out to @twosistersfreshproduce who took a bunch of flyers and were incredibly kind as well as Cafe Z and the Research LPO and fish & chip shop. Hitting up Eltham more tomorrow! Community at its best. See you Saturday
