Some books don’t just tell stories, they change the way we feel. Susan Sontag believed that great novels educate our sympathies, opening us to lives and emotions we might never encounter ourselves. As we grow older, it’s easy to shrink into habits, routines, and narrow ways of seeing the world. That’s why fiction matters. It cuts through the comfort of what we already know and reminds us how to care again. The self isn’t something finished, it’s something we keep working on. And sometimes, a story is the thing that opens us back up to the world. Source: Susan Sontag interview (2000)| Manufacturing Intellect (YouTube) . . . . #susansontag #novel #books #life #philosophy

History Rhymes @chriswillx & @officiallymcconaughey Life doesn’t repeat itself exactly… but it rhymes. Every generation grows up believing it’s living through something completely new. New technology. New culture. New struggles. New ways of seeing the world. But when you zoom out, the pattern starts to look familiar. For every step forward, something from the past fades away. For every new convenience, an old habit disappears. Every gain carries a quiet cost. The ebbs and flows, the debits and assets of life constantly balancing each other out. Maybe that’s the rhythm of existence. There’s a time to build and a time to let go. A time to plant and a time to harvest. A time to speak and a time to listen. A time to hold on and a time to move forward. What we often see as contradictions—love and hate, chaos and order, heaven and hell—might not actually oppose each other the way we think. Somewhere in the middle, they overlap. They balance. They shape each other. And maybe that’s the rhyme. Not that history repeats word for word, but the meaning echoes. The labels change. The tools change. The speed of the world changes. Yet the deeper patterns of human life keep finding their way back. Different verse. Same rhythm. And somewhere in that balance, life keeps writing the next line. #mindfulness #history #time #life #rhymes
