We hiked to Wedgemount Lake, and I was so worried because my fiancée has an ACL injury. In the AllTrails reviews, it said this trail is not for beginners,it’s hard and very challenging. But my fiancée still wanted to go. The reviews said it would take 6–7 hours round trip… but we ended up doing 12 hours! We started at 5:30 AM, and she proved she could do it! I’m so proud of her. She didn’t even complain! she kept motivating herself to push her limits. I’m amazed!
But yes, this trail is no joke! You need to scramble over rocks, climb steep sections, and it’s nonstop from the very beginning. Going down is even harder because it’s so slippery! Still, I think anyone can do this trail if you take it slow.
You need proper shoes for this hike if you don’t want to hurt your toes! 🤣 Bring sunscreen—it’s really hot up there. Check the weather before you go, and prepare some layers too. Don’t forget to bring lots of water! The view is so worth it! I’m definitely going to do it again!

Solo Snow Camping at Wedgemount Lake | 20kg Backpack Challenge! 🏔️✨
On May 23, I headed up to Wedgemount Lake for a solo overnight camping trip. Even though I’ve done this hike twice before, the heavy snow on top made it an entirely new challenge this time around.
The Stats: 12 km (out and back) | 1,450m steep elevation gain
The Pack: 20kg+ of winter & overnight gear
The Time: 5 hours of pure uphill grinding to reach the top.
The snow made it tough, but waking up to these views made every second worth it. Total peace up there—just my tent and one other group in the entire alpine.
Drop a follow to catch the upcoming videos from this crazy snowy camp, and join the journey for more hiking and backcountry vlogs! ⛺🥾

Seriously though, where are my fellow outdoor adventurers?!
This stunning spot is Wedgemount Lake in British Columbia.
We’ve done a lot of hikes and this was the most challenging. Not only did we complete it in a heatwave where temperatures were in the high 30’s (C) but the elevation gain across 6km is 1160m. So it’s not a far way to go - it’s just very steep! The last uphill was all loose rocks and boulders and with no shade. Once we made it to the top though, it was absolutely worth it!
TIPS
- Bring LOTS of water. We went through 8L and it still wasn’t enough. There’s not many places to fill your bottles along the way.
- POLES POLES POLES. We had them with us and I still fell quite bad from my wobly legs. Make sure you use them before you think you need them.
- Go early! We went late in the day which made it hotter and we encountered more people coming down. This hike took us 8.5 hours as well, so you want to take into consideration when it gets dark and plan accordingly. You also want some time at the top to relax and take in the views.
- There’s no public transit to the entry point and it’s about a 2.5 hour drive from Vancouver. There’s a small parking lot with outhouses at the entrance to the trail.
Let me know - would you try this?
