Families of victims of the deadliest mass stabbing in Canadian history got some answers from RCMP this week, but some are left with more questions.
Myles Sanderson killed 11 people and injured 17 others on Sept. 4, 2022. He died shortly after being arrested after a four-day manhunt.
Police said the complex investigation involved 42 different crime scenes and more than 200 witness interviews.
The RCMP gave a preliminary timeline of events to the public on Thursday, after meeting with the families of the people who were killed and the survivors Wednesday.
Brian “Buggy” Burns lost his wife Bonnie and his son Gregory “Jonesy” in the attacks. His surviving sons who were in the home that night were traumatized.
Before he took part in the briefing, he sought comfort from his loved ones, visiting their graves at a local church.
Darryl Burns lost his sister in the attacks. She died while trying to help Buggy’s wife Bonnie, who had called for help.
“I know in my heart that she is a hero. She did what she needed to do that day. It’s very tough losing her,” Darryl said.
“She was our rock. Everybody leaned on her.”
Brian said he got some clarity, but wants to know why Myles committed the massacre. He also wants to know if it could have been prevented.

After the tragic deaths in James Smith Cree Nation and Weldon, Sask., Regina designer Julie Paul knew she wanted to help.
She decided to volunteer her services to make graduation dresses and suits for students this year.
Paul is used to making powwow regalia, and said that experience will help her create the grad outfits.
She said grads have already started reaching out to her with special ideas for their outfits.
So far about 10 have approached her after hearing about her project.
A mass stabbing on Sept. 4 left nine community members dead and 18 injured, along with one man dead in neighbouring Weldon.
Since then, those in surrounding communities and beyond have stepped up to help in different ways.
