I don’t understand how an essay can be 100 words. 100 words isn’t an essay, it’s a paragraph. Maybe she shouldn’t be a teacher if she doesn’t know the difference between an essay and a paragraph #essay #essaywriting #wordcount #study #studying
Here’s the key to finishing that first draft: Knowing that it’s not gonna be perfect. 🙃 I wish somebody had told this to new writer me because it would have saved a LOT of trouble, heartache, and stories. You’ll always have that voice in your head saying that your work isn’t good enough…so how do you ignore it? 👀 I call it WORD VOMIT (yeah, like Mean Girls). Just type and keep tying. Try to drown it out with those clacky keys. 📝 No, it won’t be perfect, but a first draft never is. That’s what revisions are for. All a first draft must do is exist. You’ll handle the rest later. Alright, how much have you written in the past 24 hours? Could be 5,000 words, could be 0–let me know in the comments!🫶🏻 #writinghacks #writingadvice #writingtipsandtricks #writingmethods #advice #firstdraft #wordvomit #meangirls #writingmotivation #wordcount

Ok, still working on my first draft and if is going slowly at the moment because I tried bringing order into the chaos by also deleting and replacing some of the notes I had in my draft. 😅 Feels a bit like one step forward, two steps back? Do you sort and delete parts of your first draft or do you leave everything in until you start with the second draft? 🤔 #wordcount #progress #motivation #mood #writerslife
This was my first week back to writing since we moved! It’s tempting to look back on the days when I easily got 2k+ words daily and feel like I’m not doing enough now. But things have changed since then! My daughter still naps (sometimes), but my son doesn’t. And I’m being more thoughtful with each sentence in this second draft compared to my first “garbage” draft where my goal was just to get words on the page. Plus, it’s summertime, which means I’m usually prioritizing outside time over time at the desk. All that said, I’m proud of myself for chipping away at these tricky chapters. Before I know it, I’ll be typing “The End” again. 🥹 If you’re a parent, or just have a busy schedule, how do you take time for your writing? Do you have a set time of day to write or do you squeeze it in when you can? #writingcommunity #writerlife #writersofinstagram #writergram #sahm #wordcount
Please note!!! I’m speaking from the place of ADULT ROMANCE/ROMANTIC COMEDY. Though I have seen it fairly widely recommended that if you’re feeling lost about word count, 80k is a safe number to stay in the vicinity of across the board (of course middle grade and children’s are exceptions to this and will be much shorter). When I start to get nervous is when we get over 100k and especially over 110k, independent of the genre. You could very well add 10-20k with your agent and editor and they’re accounting for this. As for books above 120k words, from my time on query tracker, I personally noted that many agents immediately reject them without even looking. There are always exceptions!!! But in a business where the odds of success are already so low, I recommend doing whatever is possible to maximize those chances of success, including writing fewer words. #writingcommunity #wordcount #writingadvice #debutauthor #queryingauthor
Not asking about agents and trad. publishing. I am well aware of the rationale for that. Good books literally come in all sizes, though very few shapes, so really, to READERS does this matter? I was never intimidated by a books size even when I was a kid. If it sounded interesting enough and the story started good, I stayed through no matter what. Honestly, I generally found more disappointment in thinner books because I felt they were...for babies...😅 Nowadays, the size really doesn't matter and I only look at word count when writing or Beta reading for a time investment estimate. Let’s see how many words I can write in a week as an aspiring author working on their first draft! ✍🏼 This was a really great week for me, as from now I am trying to complete two chapters or 5,000 words a week. Keep in mind this is what I am able to complete after my kids go to bed for the night, but will start to change once I am back at uni in September. I’m basically trying to catch up as much as I can in August, so I can hopefully have my first draft done by November. Do you like word count videos like this? Let me know and I can make another! - The bookstore featured in this video is @romancing.the.novel. They have a super cute room upstairs that is perfect for reading and writing! #writersoninstagram #aussiewriter #aspiringauthor #aspiringauthors #aussiewriters #romancingthenovel #wordcount #wordcountgoals #wordcountupdate
