This World Food Day, we’re reminded that access to safe, nutritious and affordable food should never be taken for granted. Yet too many individuals and families face food insecurity, worrying about where their next meal will come from and having to make impossible choices between everyday essentials. Food is more than a necessity. It is fundamental to our health, dignity and wellbeing. Nobody should have to experience hunger or struggle to put food on the table. Today, we recognise the food banks, volunteers and community organisations working tirelessly to support people in need. Their work makes a real difference, but we must continue working towards a future where everyone can access the food they need. A fairer society is one where nobody is left behind. by @tahirali.mp
Today I spoke in the Westminster Hall Debate about the growing crisis in children’s mental health. I emphasised the importance of suicide prevention at every stage of a child’s education, and the need for earlier intervention by supporting parents and families. We must act before children reach crisis point and ensure every young person gets the support they need. by @tahirali.mp
More opportunities for young people – including here in Birmingham. The Government is investing £22.5 million to help more than 400 secondary schools in disadvantaged communities expand enrichment opportunities for pupils. That means more young people getting the chance to take part in activities such as football, music, engineering, debating, volunteering and outdoor learning – both during and after the school day. These opportunities are about more than just activities. They help young people build confidence, develop new skills, discover new interests and feel a stronger sense of belonging. Every young person should have the opportunity to discover what they are capable of, whatever their background or postcode. This is Labour delivering more opportunities for young people and investing in their future. by @tahirali.mp
A new National Care Service is being planned by the Government to give older people greater dignity, security and peace of mind in later life. The proposed service will provide free personal care based on need rather than ability to pay, including support with everyday tasks such as eating, bathing and using the toilet. The plans will be introduced in phases, with the aim of building a sustainable care system that supports older people, families and the NHS. This is part of the Government’s mission to tackle some of the most difficult challenges facing our country and build a fairer and more secure future. by @tahirali.mp
A huge well done to all the students who have worked hard to reach this important milestone. You should be proud of the effort you’ve put in. For those celebrating today, congratulations on your achievements! And if your results weren’t what you had hoped for, remember that one set of results does not define your future. There are always different routes and opportunities ahead, and this is just one step in your journey. Wishing every young person the very best as they take their next steps, whether that’s further education, an apprenticeship, starting work, or exploring a different path. A big thank you as well to the parents, teachers and everyone who has supported students along the way. Congratulations to you all, and best of luck for the next chapter! by @tahirali.mp

Today in Parliament I stated the urgency and importance of delivering aid to Gaza. Gaza is in famine and many are dying. Delivery of basic needs must not be conditional on the Israeli government. The suffering of Palestinian’s must not be allowed to continue, the international community needs to act immediately. The world is watching, history is being recorded, the UK must choose to act before it’s too late to amend mistakes. by @tahirali.mp
I’m backing @arthritisuk and their plan to support 10 million adults, young people, and children living with #arthritis in the UK today. For more information and support, visit www.arthritis-uk.org, or call their helpline 0800 5200 520. by @tahirali.mp
Great news — the government is rolling out veteran support centres across the UK. For Hall Green and Moseley, that means 1,160 veterans will soon have access to dedicated local support. by @tahirali.mp
Yesterday, I asked the Minister what plans the government has to stabilise the disastrous situation in Sudan. In the last 2 years, over 150,000 innocent civilians have been killed, 14 million displaced. Yet, despite the fact that Sudan is facing the worst humanitarian crisis in the world, very little has been done to stop the killing and bloodshed. Aid must be given to those who desperately need it, and the civil war needs to end immediately. by @tahirali.mp
I welcome the government’s plans following the school curriculum review, and its proposed changes based on the findings. The National Curriculum hasn’t been updated in over a decade, and has now become far too outdated to tend to the needs of a students’ educational experience. However, as the curriculum evolves, it is crucial that the needs of SEND children and those from disadvantaged backgrounds are not lost in the shuffle. Every child has the right to a fair education, and we must make sure that we tackle the inequalities that disadvantaged students are facing in the education system. by @tahirali.mp
It was a pleasure to attend Springfield Project’s Festival of Sparkhill event. Sparkhill is a vibrant, multicultural and diverse area with a warm and welcoming community. With their Sparkhill Child Friendly Neighbourhood Programme, as well as their Thriving Neighbourhood Programme, the Project are creating a vision for a brighter more prosperous future for Sparkhill. by @tahirali.mp
