Everyday Life

Take Ninagawa

Upcoming at Take Ninagawa

AWT Focus 2026, “Koji Kamoji: Everyday Life,” Curated by Maria Brewińska

Opening Reception: November 4, 2026, 6–8pm

Take Ninagawa is pleased to announce the gallery’s upcoming exhibition with Koji Kamoji, an outstanding artist of the postwar avant-garde whose work has, for decades, brought together a Japanese sensibility and the experience of Polish and European art. Curated by Maria Brewińska ( @maria_brewinska ) for Art Week Tokyo ( @artweektokyo )’s AWT Focus platform, “Everyday Life” is a moving visual essay devoted to everyday existence as a means of sustaining life and humanity under conditions of extreme danger. The project is rooted in the artist’s memories of meeting concentration camp survivors in the 1980s, as well as the story of the relationship between Jan Pilecki and Genowefa Duszczak, whose love began in Auschwitz.

Koji Kamoji does not construct a literal historical narrative. Instead, he translates these experiences into his distinctive artistic language, grounded in abstraction, reduction, space, and attentiveness. At the heart of the exhibition is the installation Room in Auschwitz (2025), a symbolic site of intimacy preserved in defiance of the machinery of violence. It is presented alongside the iconic work Draught (1975/2026), in which humble sheets of paper become mediums for the breath of life, invisible closeness, and the flow of hope within an oppressive environment, and the new work Haiku—Well (2026), which evokes both biological continuity and childhood memories of Japan. The exhibition is completed by a presentation of White Paintings made between 2021 and 2023—records of the artist’s daily practice—and the spatial intervention of a red line running through the gallery, which represents the will and the perseverance of life.

Kamoji directs our attention to what remains beyond the grand narratives of history. His exhibition offers a timely reflection on preserving agency and intimacy in the face of dehumanization—and this remains as relevant as ever.

Please join us for the AWT FOCUS Vernissage on Wednesday, November 4, 6–8pm.

Aki Sasamoto’s Life Laboratory
Solo Exhibition | July 19–November 3, 2026
The National Museum of Art, Osaka

#AkiSasamoto is known for her installation/performance practice, through which she raises profound questions about human agency and relationships by performing improvised monologues and physical contortions in response to constructed environments filled with absurdist devices. “Aki Sasamoto’s Life Laboratory,” which originated at the Museum of Contemporary Art Tokyo in 2025, surveys more than two decades of the artist’s career. The Osaka iteration of the exhibition will feature a new combination of works, including Yield Point (2017), from the museum’s collection, and E_O (2011).

Sasamoto will perform her major works Secrets of My Mother’s Child (2009), E_O (2011), Wrong Happy Hour (2014), and Yield Point (2017) on select dates during the run of the exhibition.
