🌿💚 THE STOMACH & SPLEEN IN TCM: WORRY, OVERTHINKING & ACUPUNCTURE 💚🌿 Ever noticed your digestion suffers when you’re stressed, worried or overthinking? In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), the Stomach and Spleen are linked to digestion, nourishment and Qi (vital energy), as well as how we process thoughts and emotions. ✨ THE STOMACH — WORRY Constant worry and anxiety may show up as bloating, digestive discomfort or changes in appetite. ✨ THE SPLEEN — OVERTHINKING Replaying conversations, analysing every decision and struggling to switch off can leave you feeling mentally drained, foggy and low in energy. 🌱 HOW CAN ACUPUNCTURE HELP? Research suggests acupuncture influences the nervous system, supports pain regulation and helps with stress-related and digestive symptoms. Modern technology now quantifies the impact of TCM acupuncture when administered by a competent practitioner ☯️ 💚 SIMPLE WAYS TO SUPPORT YOURSELF: 🌿 Eat regular, nourishing meals. 🌿 Take time to eat slowly and mindfully. 🌿 Enjoy gentle walks and slow breathing. 🌿 Write down your worries. 🌿 Give yourself permission to rest. 🌸 A GENTLE REMINDER You don’t have to solve every problem today. You don’t need all the answers or need to replay every conversation. Sometimes, the most nourishing thing you can do is slow down, take a breath and allow yourself to rest. 💚 Nourish your body. Quiet your mind. Find your balance. 🌿 #TraditionalChineseMedicine #Acupuncture #MindBodyConnection #DigestiveHealth by @tami_dykes
🌿 TCM & THE EMOTION OF ANGER In Traditional Chinese Medicine, anger is connected to the Liver and the Wood element — the energy of growth, movement and expansion. ✨ Anger isn’t an emotion to be ashamed of or simply pushed away. It’s a message asking to be acknowledged. Like the branches of a tree reaching towards the light, we need space to grow, move and express ourselves. When our feelings are constantly suppressed, frustration, resentment and tension can begin to build. The goal isn’t to never feel anger, but to understand it, honour what it’s trying to tell us, and find healthy ways to express it. 🌱 Feel it. Acknowledge it. Express it. Release it. Our emotions need movement, not suppression. Sometimes, healing begins when we give ourselves permission to speak our truth, set boundaries and allow ourselves to feel what we feel — without judgment ☯️ Your emotions are not your enemy. They are an invitation to listen more deeply to yourself by @tami_dykes
The deeper you understand energy, the more you recognise the wisdom of nature. A river doesn’t force its way through the landscape. It finds a path. It moves around obstacles, nourishes what lies along its journey, and simply keeps flowing. This makes me think of my son’s current journey on the Sangha river through the Congo — a powerful reminder that resilience isn’t always about pushing harder. Sometimes, it’s about adapting, finding another way, respecting the environment around you and continuing to move forward. Thankfully Ash understands this better than most 🙏 In Chinese medicine, Qi is movement, vitality and life energy. Like a river, Qi needs to flow. When energy moves freely, it nourishes us; when it becomes stagnant, balance can be lost and disease ensue. Our lives are much the same. The conversations we have, the emotions we hold onto, and the environments we spend time in, all influence our inner flow. Not everything needs to be resisted, controlled or judged. Sometimes we simply need to notice what leaves us feeling heavy — and choose a different direction. There is wisdom in water. It reminds us that we can be both soft and strong, flexible and grounded. Choose what allows Qi to flow. Release what no longer serves you. Protect what restores you. Adapt when the path changes. Keep moving towards what gives life. Let energy flow. 🌿💧 by @tami_dykes
🍂 Autumn — The Season of Metal, the Lungs & Large Intestine, and Letting Go 🍂 In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), Autumn is governed by the Metal element — a season of harvest, contraction, reflection and turning inward. It is associated with the Lungs and Large Intestine, organs connected with taking in what nourishes us and releasing what we no longer need — both physically and emotionally. Just as the trees naturally shed their leaves to conserve energy for the colder months ahead, Autumn invites us to practise the art of letting go. 🍁 🌬️ The emotional wisdom of Autumn The Lungs are traditionally associated with grief, sadness and attachment. When we resist change or hold tightly to the past, our energy can become stagnant. Autumn offers us an opportunity to gently acknowledge feelings of loss, reflect on what our experiences have taught us, and release what is no longer serving us. In doing so, we cultivate the Metal qualities of discernment, clarity, boundaries and self-worth. 🤍 Supporting the body through Autumn In TCM, the Lungs are said to govern the skin and the body’s protective Wei Qi (defensive energy). As the weather becomes cooler and drier, slowing down and conserving our energy can help us move into Winter with greater resilience. Autumn self-care focuses on nourishing, warming and moistening the body. Think: 🍐 Poached pears 🍯 Honey 🥕 Warming soups and nourishing root vegetables 🫚 Ginger 🧄 Garlic Moderate amounts of pungent foods such as ginger and garlic are traditionally used to support circulation and the respiratory system. 🌿 A simple practice for letting go You can also try the Lung Healing Sound. Close your eyes, take a gentle breath in and imagine inhaling pure white light. Then slowly exhale with an elongated: “Sssssss…” Allow the breath and sound to soften the chest and create a sense of release. As you breathe out, imagine letting go of sadness, grief, fatigue or anything you have been carrying that you no longer need. 🍂 Autumn reminds us that letting go is not a loss — it is part of the natural rhythm of life ☯️ by @tami_dykes
“I come to see you because I feel better after talking to you.” I hear versions of this from my clients all the time — and honestly, it means so much to me. ❤️ Because acupuncture isn’t just about the needles. Yes, I work on pain, stress, tension, sleep, mental wellbeing and so much more. But there’s another really important part of what happens in the treatment room… We talk. You have time to slow down. Time to be listened to. Time to talk about what’s really going on. Time to focus on you. And I think that practitioner-client relationship is a huge part of why so many of my clients become regulars. They don’t necessarily wait until something is wrong before they come in. They use acupuncture as part of their regular self-care — to help keep themselves well, balanced and on top of ongoing conditions. For some, it’s about managing pain. For others, it’s supporting their mental health. For many, it’s simply about having that regular reset. Acupuncture may be the treatment — but the connection, conversation and relationship are a big part of the medicine too. 🌿 And I feel incredibly lucky that so many people trust me to be part of their wellbeing journey. ❤️ by @tami_dykes
Grateful for this recent testimonial 🙏❤️ Acupuncture is just one part of how I support healing. Every person who walks through my door has their own story, and I believe true healing comes from looking at the whole person—not just their symptoms. Alongside treatment, I love helping my clients understand other ways they can support their health, so they feel informed, empowered, and confident in taking an active role in their own wellbeing. Healing isn’t something that happens to you—it’s something we work towards together. It’s a partnership built on trust, compassion, and a shared goal of helping you feel your very best. Seeing someone regain their health, confidence, and quality of life is the greatest privilege, and without doubt the most rewarding part of being a holistic practitioner. ☯️ by @tami_dykes
This review popped up on my timeline today, just as I was reflecting on my sisters 👯‍♀️🤍🤍 A sign perhaps 🙏 I never lived close to either of my sisters in adulthood but spent holidays together when our children were young. In recent years I’ve been so wrapped up in work etc that I didn’t see Anna often at all. Perhaps twice a year. However, my acupuncture needles come with me everywhere I travel & when I saw Anna in Norfolk July 2024 she was suffering with terrible insomnia. She was so impressed with the results, much to my surprise she left me this wonderful review on my fb business page 🫂 As you can imagine, when I see this review from her it comforts me greatly, knowing that, in some small way, I helped ease her suffering ❤️‍🩹 She passed away from cancer last year 💔 Sometimes it’s only through losing the people we love most that we truly understand what matters—and how even the smallest acts of care can leave the biggest impact 🙏 by @tami_dykes
Duration & frequency of treatment vary since each person is a unique riddle to be solved. Some may need only a few sessions, while others may need the accumulated benefit of weeks or months of attention. This all depends on factors such as severity of the complaint, how long the person has had it & the extent to which living patterns exacerbate the condition. In my experience the potential of acupuncture is often maximised by frequency, continuity & perseverance. Acupuncture is a subtle & potent technique for initiating change that may engender strong reactions as well as gradual transformations. There is often a struggle between the need for change & the desire to maintain that which is stable & familiar. Everyone wishes for a cure without change, for recovery without effort. It’s a collaboration between practitioner & client, working together for the most favourable outcome… by @tami_dykes
I want to try acupuncture, but how will I know if it’s working & how many sessions will I need✨ When a client enquires about treatment they generally have a preconception about acupuncture. Some may have done a quick google search or watched a short insta post & decided this could be a quick way to resolve their health issues 🤔 Heres a brief idea of what to expect: Acupuncture works cumulatively—each treatment builds on the last. While some people experience immediate relief, lasting results often take time and consistency, especially with chronic conditions. It’s the same principle with gym work & expecting a 6 pack after one workout 🏋️‍♀️ For example - chronic pain & hormonal problems often require a minimum of 6 treatments over a 6 week period. This gives the practitioner a good insight to how you’re responding & a chance for you to adapt to some of the lifestyle/dietary changes that may be required. I don’t just place needles, but assess you holistically - in my case from a Chinese medicine perspective ☯️ During this course you can often expect to experience some, if not all of the following indications that acupuncture is working: ✨ Better sleep – deeper, more restful sleep and waking feeling refreshed. ✨ Greater awareness – heightened senses and increased connection with your body. ✨ More emotions – feelings may surface more easily as underlying stress is released. ✨ Increased energy – feeling more motivated, alert, and vibrant. ✨ Less stress – calmer moods and a greater ability to cope with daily pressures. ✨ Improved digestion – more regular bowel movements and better digestive balance. If you’re noticing any of these changes, stay the course—symptom relief is often not far behind 🙏 by @tami_dykes
🌸 Menopause Support with TCM Acupuncture 🌸 Menopause is a natural transition, but that doesn’t mean you have to ‘struggle’ through it. Research shows that regular TCM acupuncture treatments can significantly improve quality of life by supporting both physical and emotional wellbeing during perimenopause and menopause. 💕 ✨ How can acupuncture help? 🔥 Reduce hot flushes & night sweats Supports the body’s temperature regulation to help ease sudden heat surges. 😴 Improve sleep quality Calms the nervous system and promotes deeper, more restorative sleep. 💗 Support mood & emotional balance Encourages the release of feel-good hormones to help with anxiety, irritability and mood swings. 🦴 Ease aches and stiffness Helps reduce inflammation and relieve joint and muscle discomfort. ⚡ Boost energy & mental clarity Supports circulation and helps combat fatigue and brain fog. 🌿 A personalised, holistic approach In TCM, we treat the root cause—not just the symptoms—because every woman’s menopause journey is unique. You don’t have to simply “put up with it.” Support is available, and you deserve to thrive in this next chapter. ✨ by @tami_dykes
KEEP IT REAL Shout out to every woman navigating perimenopause and menopause 🪷 May you move through this season unapologetically — embracing the highs, the lows, the changes, and yes, even the hot flushes & sleepless nights 🤪 When you look in the mirror, may you see more than lines and changes. May you see a life fully lived. A face that is just as beautiful as it was in childhood, now enriched with laughter lines, tears, resilience, and the wisdom that only experience can bring. Don’t hide. Don’t apologise. And don’t surrender to a beauty industry that too often equates worth with youth and flawless skin. Your power doesn’t diminish with age — it deepens. Wear your years with pride. Show younger women that beauty is not something that fades with time; it’s something that grows through strength, compassion, authenticity, and the courage to be yourself. Age is not something to fight. It’s something to honour. 💕✨ by @tami_dykes
TREATMENT BEGINS WITH HUMAN CONNECTION Before we even pick up a needle, we’re already paying attention — to temperature, texture, muscle tone, and how your body responds to touch. When I hold your wrist to feel your pulses, I’m not only gathering clinical information; I’m also meeting you, person to person. Palm to palm, there’s an element of human connection that goes beyond pattern diagnosis alone. Short nails matter more than you might think. Acupuncturists locate points and assess pulses with the pads of the fingers — one of the most sensitive areas of the hand. Much of what we perceive is subtle, and maintaining that sensitivity matters. Long nails can interfere with the quality of touch and reduce the feedback available through the fingertips. Touch is part of the treatment experience. Acupuncture doesn’t begin with the needle. The way we make first contact with the body — holding a wrist, supporting a shoulder, or simply placing a hand with intention and care — can influence how someone feels in the treatment space. Thoughtful, skilled touch can help create a sense of safety and ease, allowing the body to settle and making it easier to receive treatment. For many patients, some of the most important work begins before a needle is ever inserted ☯️ by @tami_dykes
