Here’s a little glimpse of what it looks like to come in for a myofunctional therapy session 🤍

Every session is individualized, but today included pre-release stretches, working on airflow for a clearer /s/, choosing a positive affirmation for the week, and of course ending with a little prize ✨

Therapy can be productive, functional, and still feel positive and encouraging for the child.

Just a quick peek inside a session at Long Island Speech & Myo 👅✨ #MyofunctionalTherapy #SpeechTherapy #TongueTie #PediatricSLP #LongIslandMoms by @tammychaim

When it comes to tongue ties and lip ties, appearance alone is not enough.
Tethered oral tissues must be assessed based on function - including tongue mobility, strength, coordination, oral rest posture, breathing patterns, swallowing, speech, and compensations.

This is why it’s essential to work with providers who are trained to evaluate function, not just anatomy. Many families are currently caught between extremes ,dismissal on one end, or pressure to release on the other ,
which creates unnecessary confusion.

The final decision to release a tethered oral tissue is appropriately made by a qualified dentist or oral surgeon, but that decision should be informed by a comprehensive functional assessment and interdisciplinary collaboration.

Not every tie needs to be released.
Not every tie should be ignored.
Function should guide care.

If your child isn’t making much progress with myofunctional therapy, ask yourself one question⬇️

How often are you actually practicing at home⁉️Be honest!

👉🏼I know it’s not easy. Kids don’t always cooperate. I’m in the same boat with you. But be creative and do your best.

Two minutes outside in the playground ? Great.
Five minutes in the car? Even better.
Twice a day? Amazing!
Three times a day? Even better 😃

Myofunctional therapy is so important whether you’re working on palate expansion, speech, mouth breathing, or overall tongue function. But it takes repetition. It takes practice!

We see @tammychaim routinely . She guides us, checks the progress, adjusts the exercises, and gives us the tools and homework for the week.

👉🏼But the real progress happens with what we do in between.

Consistency at home is where the progress really happens 💯

A new chapter begins this November for Long Island Speech & Myo 🤍

We’re growing into a new space designed to feel warm, calm, and welcoming for every child, adult, and family who walks through our doors.

📍 425 Northern Blvd, Suite 25, Great Neck
Opening November 2026

So grateful for every patient and family who has been part of this journey. I can’t wait to welcome you into our new home. ✨ by @tammychaim

Today was the first Sunday I’ve taken off in almost a year.

Sunflowers reaching toward the light.
Lavender rooted deeply before it blooms.
A sunset reminding me that even the most beautiful days know when to let go.

Nature has never confused constant motion with growth.

Maybe we weren’t created to endlessly pour from ourselves. Maybe we were created to receive, to be still, and to trust that there is purpose even in the pause.

Tomorrow, I return to the work I love with a grateful heart. 💜 by @tammychaim

ZZZ Tape is one of the tools I use in my practice—but like any tool, it’s all about using it for the right patient. 👃💙

For patients who can comfortably breathe through their nose and are working on tongue posture, lip seal, and healthy breathing patterns, ZZZ Tape can be a wonderful way to help reinforce the habits we’re building in myofunctional therapy.

If you’re struggling to breathe through your nose due to chronic congestion or another underlying issue, the first step is understanding why. That’s where a comprehensive evaluation is so important.

Myofunctional therapy is about more than one product—it’s about restoring healthy breathing, oral function, and lifelong habits. ZZZ Tape can be a great part of that journey when it’s used appropriately.

🚨 You won’t believe what this balloon can reveal…

Most parents think blowing up a balloon is just a fun activity.

I see something completely different.

I see whether the lips can create a proper seal.
Whether the cheeks are stable.
Whether the tongue is coordinated.
Whether breath support is strong enough to generate the pressure needed for efficient oral function.

For many of my patients, this milestone doesn’t happen overnight.

It takes weeks—sometimes months—of retraining the muscles involved in breathing, swallowing, and oral function.

When a child finally inflates that balloon for the first time, it isn’t just about air.

It’s evidence that their body is learning to work more efficiently.

If your child struggles with:
👃 Mouth breathing
👅 Tongue thrust
🗣️ Certain speech sound errors
🍽️ Messy eating or chewing difficulties
😴 Sleep-disordered breathing or a history of tongue tie

…these are often signs that deserve a closer look.

Sometimes the smallest milestone uncovers the biggest opportunity to improve lifelong function.

Because myofunctional therapy isn’t about teaching a child to blow up a balloon.

It’s about helping them breathe better, swallow better, speak more efficiently, and build healthy oral habits that support development for years to come.

All of my patients learn how to magically decongest their nose using the breathing methods I incorporate into therapy — and it all stems from the incredible work of Patrick McKeown.

It was such a full-circle moment meeting him in person after taking his courses online and becoming a breathing practitioner myself.

Breathing is something we do every single day, yet most people are never taught how to do it properly. The way we breathe impacts sleep, focus, anxiety, airway health, and overall wellbeing more than people realize.

Thank you, Patrick, for bringing this work to life and helping practitioners like me change lives through something so simple, yet so powerful. by @tammychaim

Amid the more obvious signs:
•snoring
•audible breathing
•sweating there are often overlooked red flags:

• Clenching or grinding teeth
• Nightmares, tossing and turning
• Bedwetting

These aren’t just phases. They can indicate airway issues affecting sleep and development. If you’re noticing any of these, it’s worth exploring further. Reach out, and let’s ensure your child is breathing and thriving through the night! #myofunctionaltherapy #airwayhealth #mouthbreathing #sleepapnea #grindingteeth #bedwetting #enuresis by @tammychaim

Everyone says fix mouth breathing, but when it comes to where to start and how to fix it, no one really tells you🤷‍♀️ and it can definitely feel overwhelming!

Well, you can start by following these 3 simple exercises to support lip seal and tongue strength.

👉🏼Save this post and try to do it with your child!

But, the best way, of course, is first, getting evaluated by a myofunctional therapist and practicing these small exercises daily. Over time, they can make a big difference in your child’s health.

Many parents don’t realize that braces or orthodontic work alone might not be enough to fix the root cause. And often teeth 🦷 can start to shift back after all that time, effort, and money spent‼️

The key is understanding tongue position.👉🏼👅

When the tongue rests properly on the roof of the mouth, it helps shape the jaw and create space for teeth.✅

If it’s not there…
you can get crowding, a narrow palate,
and even relapse after orthodontic work‼️

And it’s not just about looks.

Low tongue posture → mouth breathing →
can affect sleep, speech, focus, immunity,
and overall development.
