Know your intentions!

First off, both are important! Yes, you need to be ready when you get on set to act your ass off, reacting and building your character. BUT you’ll never make it on set until you master auditioning.

Admittedly when I first got to LA I was completely uninterested in just learning to “audition”. It wasn’t until I met an actor who was doing what I wanted to do, booking major network TV consistently, that I realized I was missing a key ingredients to success.

Have you ever taken an audition class?

Most actors think their tape goes straight to producers.

It doesn’t.

Before producers ever see a single audition, directors usually get about one hour to watch submissions and flag their favorites. One hour to decide who moves forward.

That means something most actors never consider:
You’re not just auditioning for the role… you’re auditioning for the director’s attention.

If your tape doesn’t grab them quickly, it may never make it to the next level.

This is why understanding how directors actually watch auditions can completely change the way you approach your tape.

It’s also exactly what I teach inside my audition coaching — how to think like a director so your tape stands out in that first round.

Because sometimes the difference between booking and being passed over happens before producers even press play.

🎭 If you want to start approaching auditions the way directors see them, coaching info is in my bio.

Here’s your reminder to watch your old tapes!

In your free time, watch and reflect on things you’ve learned and how far you have come. This is a perfect way to stay productive, humble, and focused on the goal!

AND I highly suggest you watch @sethcaskey last few posts as he, as a casting director, journals his process! Very insightful 🙌🏾

Happy acting!

Actors, your most important tool is a healthy mind.

Understand that this career is a journey! It happens concurrent with your life. Once you have a clear understanding of the layout (all the players involved; casting, directors, producers, your agents, etc. and how they all work together) you can approach it like a business instead of being so emotional.

Get cha mind right!

Do not be fooled! Your performance is the most important aspect of your auditions.

Of course upgrading your set up can help. But if you are not focused on being an ever-growing artist, breaking down your script, and delivering an authentic character all the money upgrading will go to WASTE. Practice your craft! Get as familiar with your art as you can! Don’t be afraid to take risks. You can book TV TODAY!

Stay encouraged! Follow for more tips, tricks and encouraging words!
