Introducing… ✨ Book Ends Book Club ✨

What started as a bookstagram friendship has turned into a friendship for the ages. So, it only felt right to start a book club together.

@tashasbooked and @what_ashleyreads have gone all in! We made a logo, built a spreadsheet (because of course we did 😂) and planned out our reads for the rest of the year.

This month we tackled our very first book: Favourite Daughter by Morgan Dick. Did we love it? Swipe to find out!

💭 Have you ever enjoyed the book club discussion more than the book itself? by @what_ashleyreads

Why can’t every Monday be a day off work to hang out with your book bestie?!

Ashley and I met here on Instagram and this is only our 3rd time meeting IRL but we talk all day everyday, it genuinely feels like we’ve known each other for a lifetime. If we didn’t live 2 hours apart we would probably be inseparable 😂

We both decided to take the day off work on Monday to spend time book shopping, exploring & yapping. It was such a fun day!

I’m already counting down the days until we get together again in September ❤️

What I read the week of July 13th to July 19th!

Last week started with a dud and increasingly got better as the week went on but then ended with a trainwreck 😅

I haven’t been obsessed with anything yet this month and I’m in need of a life altering incredible story, maybe this week I’ll find it!

💭what was your last 5 star read!?

Buddy read with my gal @what_ashleyreads - our first bestie book club pick and it was not a winner unfortunately lol

A fun YA story, I think if I was younger this maybe would gripped me more

Second in the Curse Bearer Duology, I enjoyed this just as much as the first! I love these characters so much.

And here’s where the trainwreck happened, guys wtf was that lol this was entirely not for me.

I’m going to see the highly anticipated Odyssey movie tonight and so I thought it would be a good opportunity to highlight some Greek Mythology inspired books I’ve read and that are on my TBR!

My first experience in this genre was with Song of Achilles and truthfully nothing has been able to top that for me, I think about that book non-stop. But it truly kickstarted my love of the Greek Mythology genre!

I knew I wanted to read Emily Wilson’s translation of The Odyssey before the movie but I wanted to start with The Iliad, which I finished last month. Truthfully, that one wasn’t my favourite but provides good context to where we’re at starting The Odyssey, which was incredible! I highly recommend Emily Wilson’s translation, it was digestible and easy to follow.

💭Will you be going to see The Odyssey? Do you have any other Greek mythology retelling you would recommend to me?!

We’ve hit (what I consider) the middle of Summer and I still have many books I’d like to get to on my summer TBR.

Something about each of these books gives me summer vibes and they are just demanding to be read when the days are long and the weather is spicy. 🌞

💭which one should I read first!?

The majority of last week was spent studying for an exam I had on Friday so outside of lunch time & before bed reading to unwind I was primarily reading a textbook (lol to slide 3).

But thanks to some cancelled Saturday plans and some Sunday dog sitting I was able to get a lot of solid reading in over the weekend and finish 2 books!

I hope everyone has a great week ahead!🫶🏻☀️

The feeling of accomplishment when you turn the last page of a 1,072 page book 👏🏼

So much studying…. Fingers crossed I passed, I have a little bookish reward in mind if I do!
(Full transparency this is my SECOND attempt at this exam 🫠)

Couldn’t put this one down!! Auto-buy author 100%

A week of vacation is the perfect excuse to visit bookstores & buy books right? RIGHT?!

I found some amazing new & used books to add to the never ending TBR and I couldn’t be happier about it!

And I found my new favourite used bookstore - Old Goat Books in Waterloo, ON! The vibes were everything and they had so many amazing used books.

Wishing everyone an amazing weekend 🫶🏻

A few 4.5 star reads that I want to yap about!

Do we still like book reviews around here? I love to spill my thoughts so I probably won’t stop writing them lol.

These 3 books were very different but all made me feel so many things and I can’t recommend them enough! Swipe through for my thoughts on each!

This book surprised me in such a great way. I was expecting this to be a light hearted cute sapphic rom-com sports romance type book, but instead what I got was so much depth and emotion and a truly magnetic connection between our two main characters. Abby & Kate are very opposite and have very different struggles but the way they show up for each other and support one another was so beautiful to read.

There was a much deeper conversation happening within the book about the connection between the LGBTQIA community and the church and while I’m not religious in any way shape or form I found it such an interesting and important topic and a great reminder that it doesn’t have to be either or, it can be both. You can love who you want to love and still have your faith, it might look different from others but that doesn’t make it wrong or any less real. I truly commend Samantha’s way of writing about this.

I am a sucker for a story that takes place over the course of many years and the character growth was so well done for Kate & Abby. The found family & friend group was also incredibly beautiful.

Two words I keep coming back to is “showing up” - that’s really what this book was all about.

Carley has done it again! Her books just represent peak summer for me and it’s my favourite summer tradition to escape into her stories!

I was a bit nervous with this one as I’m not typically a friends to lovers kinda gal but this one was done so well, I fully believed and was invested in Frankie and George’s story. George was such a dream in the way he helped Frankie come back to herself.

The setting was perfect. I’m a Canadian so maybe I’m biased but I just love the way she captures the beauty. Even when she writes about places I have yet to visit (Tofino in this case), I still feel like by @what_ashleyreads

What I read in a week (vacation edition)

Last week I had a staycation and it was so lovely, we did a few random day trips but in between I was relaxing & reading!

As expected - The Tempest Blade was a 5 STAR! Please add this series to your TBR

Followed that up with a DNF 🫠 and then a 3 star read. They can’t all be 5⭐️ I guess lol

I’ve been working my way through SK books in pub order and the last several have been duds for me so I’m pleased to say that Under The Dome has my attention!!

Hope everyone has a fantastic week full of good weather & a great book ✌🏼💕

A look at my July TBR/hopefuls - I’m a mood reader so I don’t always stick to these TBR lists but this helps give me a little bit of direction and something to work towards!

How I made some of my selections:
• The Odyssey - hoping to read before seeing the movie later this month!

• Under The Dome - my monthly SK pick (I’m reading his books in pub order)

• In The Veins of the Drowning & Immortal Consequences - both have sequels coming out this month and it was a goal of mine to try and read any books on my physical TBR that have sequels releasing this year

• One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest - my monthly classic pick

• To Clutch A Razor - already read book one and I don’t like things being unfinished lol

The rest were just picked by a random wheel generator!

💭what’s your most anticipated July read!?

Finalllllly got my hold for The Burning Side yesterday! And Japanese Gothic I’m first in line so I anticipate getting that one any day now!

Will only be tuning in to the sequels if I enjoy the first books of course!
And I’m SO excited for Helpless by Jessica Knoll as I absolutely loved Bright Young Women. by @what_ashleyreads

June wrap up of all the things!

(Trying this new multi-caption thing so swipe for more of my ramblings 😂)

*I did not in fact read Our Perfect Storm in June, but I finished it on May 31st so close enough because I cannot re-do this entire post LOL life of a chaotic imperfect bookstagrammer…. Doing my best out here 😶‍🌫️

Truly had such a great reading month!!
Highlights:
• finishing The Bridge Kingdom series - I can’t emphasize enough how good this series is!!
• Girls Girl & Running Home To You were my favourite sapphic reads of the month, absolutely recommend both!
• Into the Blue turned me into a sobbing mess by the end

Crazy mix of movies in June! Most of these were first time watches with the exception of It Takes Two (MK & Ashley fans unite)

Saw The Mandalorian & Grogu in theatres and had such a fun time with it - I’m sure die hard Star Wars fans did not love it but I thought it was so cute.

Moonlight was heartbreaking and beautiful

Casino - what can I say I love a 3 hour mobster type movie lol

Possibly an unpopular opinion but I loved the first season of Fallout WAY more. Season 2 was still fun I just didn’t find myself as invested.

If you’re a OTH fan I highly recommend watching Everyone Is Doing Great on Netflix!

Obviously I was listening to the new Olivia Rodrigo! I’m also loving the new songs by Role Model & Gracie Abrams and I can’t wait for their albums to come out!

Didn’t listen to a single audiobook in June because I was thoroughly enjoying the Good Hang podcast with Amy Poehler! It’s so funny and even when I wasn’t familiar with the guest she brought on I was still laughing and loving the conversations! by @what_ashleyreads

I have complicated feelings about Canada Day but it’s a perfect opportunity to celebrate Canadian authors! I’ve gathered some of my fave authors & books from my shelves to showcase.

I am also a big music gal so I had to showcase some Canadian music in this post as well - the song Case of You by Joni Mitchell is so quintessentially Canadian and Noah Reid’s cover of it is so beautiful.

Speaking of Noah Reid - he plays Patrick in my favourite Canadian sitcom Schitt’s Creek. Canada is full of so much incredible talent.

One last PSA - please support the local Canadian economy. Shop at your local indie book stores, get your bookish accessories from Canadian creators, pick up a coffee at your local barista!
