Some of the most powerful conversations happen around a table. ❤️🇯🇲 Today, we had the absolute pleasure of welcoming DARPL and one of their Jamaican delegates to our family restaurant, Taste of Turner, for a very special afternoon. For my husband, it was an opportunity to bring a little of his own family heritage into the kitchen, cooking as always his grandparents’ Jamaican recipes and sharing a taste of the food and traditions passed down through generations. For all of us, it became something even more special. Around the table, we shared food, stories, experiences and honest, heart-to-heart conversations. Educators and leaders came together not just to talk about our work, but to connect as people, sharing perspectives, celebrating culture and learning from one another. It was a reminder that some of the richest professional learning doesn’t happen in a meeting room or through a presentation. Sometimes, it happens when we slow down, share a meal, listen deeply and make space for one another’s stories. As educators, we talk so much about inclusion, belonging, identity and the importance of relationships. Today was a beautiful reminder of what those values look and feel like in practice. Different experiences, shared values, meaningful conversations and a table full of food made with love. A truly magical afternoon, and one we won’t forget in a hurry. Thank you to @chantellehaughton and Leon at DARPLand our wonderful guest for sharing the afternoon with us. Our family restaurant was filled with exactly what we hoped it would be: connection, warmth, culture and community. ❤️ Good food brings people together. Good conversations bring us closer. #DARPL #Education #Leadership #Belonging #CulturalHeritage ProfessionalLearning Community TasteOfTurner by @taste_of_turner

🌴 WHO ARE TASTE OF TURNER? We're a Welsh family with Caribbean roots. My grandfather was born in the Blue Mountains of Jamaica, grew up in Saint Lucia, and survived a ship sinking during the Second World War. My grandmother was born in a miner’s shack in Merthyr Tydfil. Her father, my great-grandfather Ellie, came from Barbados and became a Black Welsh miner. So yes… Welsh roots. Caribbean blood. ❤️ Taste of Turner started during lockdown, when I began cooking while going through one of the darkest periods of my life. Cooking became my escape. Then it became our passion. Since then we've grown from our kitchen into buffets, grazing tables, Bento boxes and catering, working with organisations including Bowsa, Family Compass and Citizens Advice. We've had the good, the bad, the fake accounts, the hacks and everything in between. But we're still here. People tell us to expand and go big. Maybe one day. For now, I just want to cook with my mum, have my kids around, my wife beside me when things get crazy, and feed good people. I don't need an empire. I just want to enjoy the life I nearly lost. That's Taste of Turner. 🌴 Family history on a plate. ❤️ Thank you to everyone who's been part of the journey. #TasteOfTurner #WelshRootsCaribbeanSoul #CaribbeanFood #WelshCaribbean #SouthWalesFood by @taste_of_turner
