A half marathon that decided 13.1 miles should be less about split times and more about snack times. All for @mac.my.day charity

What started as a slightly mad idea to combine running, Cumbrian food, local drinks and a good old-fashioned party turned into something pretty special.

We had aerobics, shellsuits and sunshine, incredible food and drink, and an atmosphere that was hard to beat.

And then there was the screaming in the forest. To be fair, if you’ve just discovered a Cranston’s Cumberland sausage roll waiting for you after several miles of running, a little celebratory squeal is completely understandable.

You ran and walked. You ate. You drank. You laughed. You cheered each other on. You made new friends. You embraced the ridiculousness of it all.

And that’s exactly what we hoped Taste the Lakes would be.

A huge thank you to every producer, brewery, café, supplier and local business who helped us turn the route into the most delicious half marathon in Cumbria. Go and say hi to them next time you’re in the area.

What a day at @taste_the_lakes! 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️🥳

Our Cranstons team were out in force, with 21 of our team taking on the half marathon and doing us proud! 👏

And we loved being part of the action from the other side too, handing out plenty of our Caramelised Onion Sausage Rolls to everyone taking part 🤤

Taste the Lakes is such a brilliant celebration of everything that makes this part of the world special, bringing together the beautiful Lake District, local food and drink, and a whole lot of community spirit, with something tasty to enjoy at every mile!

This guy is the reason why the Taste the Lakes marathon is happening next Sunday.

This is Macaulay. He’s 12 years old and was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy 4 years ago.

It is a rare genetic condition that slowly weakens the muscles over time. There is no cure and that’s why we’ve set up the charity @mac.my.day to fund better treatments and hopefully, a cure. Every step you take at Taste the Lakes helps boys like Mac.

What’s more, it’s World Duchenne Awareness Day tomorrow: the 7th day of the 9th month chosen because there are 79 exons in the dystrophin gene. Mac is missing his 51st exon but he doesn’t miss much else.

He’ll be your official starter and be hanging your finishing medals around your neck - although he’ll be dressed as Freddie Mercury so you might not recognise him.

Every entry and every step you take around the 13 mile course is one step closer to us helping boys like Mac. You can also help us by fundraising through our Just Giving page.

On Sunday 13 September 2026, Greystoke Castle will host a unique half marathon: 13 miles, 12 food & drink stops, incredible local businesses, and a day that’s more about snacks than split times, pints not PBs 👀

As one of this year’s proud event partners, Jennings will be there helping keep runners fuelled with awesome beer, cheering people on, and soaking up what promises to be a cracking day out ☀️

Because Taste the Lakes isn’t your average half marathon.
It’s part running event (or walk it – we don’t judge), part food festival, part fancy-dress party, powered by local legends and supporting an incredible cause.
And yes… there’ll be an 80s disco waiting at the finish line.
Expect delicious rewards for best 80s attire, stellar spot prizes for gloriously random finishing places (143rd could absolutely be your moment), and plenty of reasons to stay long after you’ve crossed the line.
Every step helps raise money for families affected by Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy through the local charity Mac My Day.

It takes a village to organise a charity half marathon and that village is Greystoke.

Between parkhouse quarry and Greystoke forest, there is a little-used single track that needed some TLC and the strimmers and loppers were out in force to ensure the way is clear.

The views are pretty good too and we are throwing those in for free!

A week and a half to go til you’ll be striding through these trails.
