The most special piece I’ve created yet.

This piece is for my grandma, my “Cookie.” She has shaped so much of who I am and who I aspire to be. She’s radiant unlike any other, doesn’t meet a stranger, and has the most infectious joy. I’ve been blessed to have all of my amazing grandparents throughout my life, and part of that blessing comes with getting to know who they are so deeply over the years.

Watching the people you love age is such a strange and emotional part of life. But, I think there’s something beautiful about the way the truest parts of them still shine through, no matter how much changes.

My Cookie has always had a natural gift for music. She can sit down at the piano and completely captivate a room without even trying. Some of my favorite memories are sitting beside her at the piano taking lessons at 9 years old, or standing around the piano with my family during holidays while she played.

I’ve always been fascinated by people and the gifts they’ve been given…the things that are so naturally a part of who they are that they flow effortlessly from them despite time passing and life changing. This piece was inspired by that, and by her. 🎹

Thank you to Bruce McCormick who selected this piece to be performed at Regional Dance America/Southeast 2026. Thank you to Tiffany Yeager for creating the costume of my dreams. Thank you to my cast of dancers who performed it so beautifully and with so much heart - I am full of gratitude! by @taybinkschoreo

happy #worldballetday 🩰

I could genuinely write a novel about what this artform has done for me. If I could go back and tell my younger self anything, it would be to better appreciate the journey of it all. The “big roles” are a great goal to have & admiration can make you feel great for a moment, but I wish I’d understood sooner how little those things actually mattered compared to the privilege of simply getting to train the way I did.

I was never the most naturally talented dancer in the room. I had to WORK for what I ended up achieving, but my passion was always there & I had big dreams of dancing for as long as possible. There’s been lots of changes in my relationship with dance (ballet especially) over the past few years. It’s a strange thing to spend practically your entire life so deeply devoted to something, to the point that you let it become part of your identity, and then have that relationship change so quickly. After two hip surgeries, there are things my body just doesn’t do anymore. There are days I still deeply struggle with the frustration & heartache of that…especially still being so young.

However, ballet has a way of teaching you some of the greatest lessons while also challenging you in ways you don’t always recognize until later. I also know how easy it is to become so consumed with being good at something that you start to lose sight of why you loved it in the first place.

I’m grateful that my relationship with dance has continued to evolve & I’m grateful for the ways God is teaching me to live boldly in my calling. His ways are higher & what a privilege to still be intertwined with this artform. 🫀 by @taybinkschoreo
