Our construction project on the Silohalbinsel in Rostock is completed.

With the 4-star Radisson Hotel, a brewery-style restaurant and the office floors in the east wing, a mixed-use building has been created here that combines the maritime and tourist use, a variety of experiences, high-quality modern workspaces and a large open space that can be optimally utilised within the urban fabric. The choice of materials and colours makes direct reference to the built environment. As a striking, red-brown clinker-brick building, the U-shaped new development follows the curved line of the urban boundary along the plot.

🔵 Special Honor Prize – Dockyard, Berlin
🎉 Tchoban Voss Architekten @tchobanvossarchitekten has won the Special Honor Prize in the Space Category at the Designverse Awards 2025–2026!

Winning Project: Dockyard, Berlin
Category: Architecture Design – Office Architecture – Office Building

Located beside the River Spree, Dockyard completes the eastern edge of Berlin’s historic East Harbour. Two office volumes are connected by a glazed structure with exposed beech trusses, while its open lower levels form a column-free passage linking the city with the waterfront. A hybrid timber skeleton supports flexible workplaces, expansive glass façades and connected roof terraces. Certified timber, recycled concrete and recycled-steel composite beams reduce embodied impact, while solar energy and a 1.6-million-litre ice-storage system installed inside a disused freight tunnel provide fossil-free heating and cooling.

For years, the firm TCHOBAN VOSS Architekten has been committed to sustainable and respectful revitalization. Due to the gradually growing appreciation of existing building stock, an increasing awareness of issues related to sustainability, resource conservation, energy- and space-efficient use, and the circular economy, buildings currently threatened with demolition are increasingly being evaluated for potential repurposing and renovated accordingly. From an ecological and, above all, an energy perspective, renovation is significantly more sustainable when considering the building’s life cycle as a whole. Every demolition results in the release of “gray energy”—the primary energy expended to construct the building.

The renovation project in Neumuenster presented here is precisely such a project: The load-bearing structure of the former Karstadt building, consisting of three building sections (built in 1951, 1962, and 1978), has been largely preserved.

The Dockyard Berlin is one of the most sustainable office buildings in Germany, developed by @tchobanvossarchitekten for Pecan Development. We created two lobbies for the Dockyard. The lobbies are not only reception areas. They are spaces for arrival, orientation and transition into the working day. But above all, they are spaces designed to inspire and invite people to linger. Timber-clad columns, a precise ceiling grid and vertical spatial filters translate the building’s façade structure into the interior, effectively zoning the open-plan spaces. A range of meeting and seating configurations accommodates spontaneous encounters and informal working alike.
The defining feature of both lobbies is a double-height void animated by the large-scale art installation ‘Die Luft muss man sich wegdenken’, 2025 by Berlin-based artist @juliusvonbismarck . The suspended installation of bent wire evokes a monumental wave, multiplied over and over by the mirrored ceiling above. Behind the reception desks, the installation is complemented by ‘Obsession Series’, 2025 by Korean designer and artist @_kwangho_lee . His woven nylon ropes speak to the history of the harbour and the materiality of the place. Together, the two works create identity-forming spaces with a strong presence and immediate recognition value, positioning the Dockyard as a creative, forward-looking address.

In the EMBASSY project at Köllnischer Park, the idea was to work with the scale and continuity of the Berlin street while allowing each building to develop its own character within the ensemble. The six houses are defined by different façades, materials and proportions, and at the same time remain part of a coherent urban structure.

The choice of natural stone and clinker in subtle tones follows the material language of the surrounding city, where variation does not lead to contrast but to a layered perception of the whole. Slight differences in façade design and parapet heights support this individuality, while the overall composition remains calm and consistent.

In this way, the project becomes less an object and more a continuation of the urban fabric, where architecture is understood as a sequence of related elements rather than a single gesture.

Materiality: Greifswalder Strasse /Heinrich-Roller-Strasse

From our perspective, materiality is the most significant sign of contemporary architecture. Concrete, as a sculptural and fascinating material of our time, gives us a platform to offer responses on the same level as the relief‑rich historic buildings around us. The craftsmanship of our time may be raw or stripped of ornament, and it remains compelling through the expression of the details we choose.
