On a recent rainy morning, the Tejon Ranch Conservancy was honored to help facilitate the release of Golden Eagle patient 26-578 following a remarkable recovery at the Ojai Raptor Center.

After being found with serious injuries consistent with a suspected vehicle collision, the eagle underwent extensive treatment and rehabilitation. Following careful assessments of vision, flight capabilities, and hunting ability, patient 26-578 was cleared for release back into the wild.

This was truly a golden opportunity for the Conservancy to play a role in returning a rehabilitated native raptor to its natural habitat. We are grateful for the opportunity to support efforts like this and hope to facilitate many more wildlife releases in the years ahead.

A special thank you to the dedicated team at the Ojai Raptor Center for their exceptional rehabilitation work, and to Tehachapi Volunteer Wildlife Transport for their partnership and support. Collaborations like these are a wonderful example of what can be accomplished when organizations work together on behalf of wildlife conservation. by @tejonconservancy

Golden Eagle Patient 26-578 is flying free!
You may remember this young Golden Eagle who was found injured along Highway 58 near Hart Flat and transported to Ojai Raptor Center in August.
On arrival, he was suffering from significant head, eye, and internal injuries consistent with a suspected vehicle collision. We were particularly concerned about his vision and whether the damage to his eyes would affect his ability to survive in the wild.
Over the following weeks, our rehabilitation team saw steady improvement. His vision began to recover, he started feeding independently, and he gradually regained his strength.
As we shared in our previous update, he was eventually moved into the Ojai Raptor Center’s Freedom Flight, a 233-foot flight enclosure, to continue building his strength and endurance. Our team used trail cameras to monitor his movements and assess his ability to navigate the enclosure and successfully hunt live prey.
After 72 days of treatment and rehabilitation, he passed his final assessments and was cleared for release.
We are very happy to share that Patient 26-578 has now been returned to his home territory!
A special thank you to Tejon Ranch Conservancy and Tehachapi Volunteer Wildlife Transport for their partnership and support in helping us give this Golden Eagle a second chance.
Releases like this are made possible through the combined efforts of our rehabilitation team, our partners, and everyone who supports the work of Ojai Raptor Center.

Pacific Chorus Frogs
These Pacific chorus frogs (Pseudacris regilla) were spotted hanging out in a natural spring adjacent to Cañada del Gato Montes this past September. Pacific chorus frogs are vital indicators of ecosystem health, as their sensitive, permeable skin makes them highly responsive to water quality and environmental changes. Because of their lightweight bodies, they are often seen resting effortlessly on algae mats right on the water surface. Interestingly, despite their small size of just one to two inches, their distinct call is the famous “ribbit” sound routinely used for background night effects in Hollywood movies. Also, do you like the picture of the ones on the board? If so, nailed it!

The Moon over Tejon Ranch
Did anyone notice how unusually bright and clear the moon was this past September? This shot was taken from Blue Ridge on Tejon Ranch during our wine event last September. The clear, crisp view of the lunar surface is a great reminder that you do not always need sophisticated telescopes to get detailed images of celestial bodies when you have clear skies and low atmospheric interference. #tejonmoon #tejonranch #blueridgeview #tejonranchconservancy #photographicvistas image by Mitchell Coleman by @tejonconservancy
