“mo wa laaye” is a Yoruba phrase which in english translates to “i’m alive”.

over the past 14 months, i’ve been dealing with a chronic illness that came with a laundry list of symptoms. at it’s worst—coughing up blood and battling for the strength to get out of bed every morning the first few hours i woke up, at its best, feeling like i’m almost through a hangover. i’ve progressively recovered over the time period with me currently being able to do everything but exercise more or less, but obviously as such things go, in the earlier stages, it came with the deterioration of my mental health as i had no choice but to sit and watch myself become a husk of the man in the mirror.

the constant brain fog was one of the biggest challenges for me, with it even impeding my ability to work on music production and shutting or slowing down all of my personal goals for the time period. this song started as simply a fun project but overtime, it came to represent the ability to fight back when life simply lifes, and finding the strength to hope for a better tomorrow because mo wa laaye. i’m alive. i hope it gives you the same strength and courage it gave me, thank you for listening ❤️
