The legacy of one of Texas Southern University’s most iconic professors lives on through a new generation.

School of Communication Professor Vincent Powell presents Black Is Eternal, a powerful theatrical production that dives deep into Black literature through dramatic performance and visualization.

This one-of-a-kind production takes the stage tonight at Houston’s historic DeLuxe Theater at 7 p.m. Performances continue through July 4, including a Saturday matinee at 2 p.m.

We want to extend a huge thank you to every school that showed up, competed, and held strong throughout this tournament. The level of preparation, passion, and resilience on display made this experience meaningful and memorable for everyone involved. Special recognition goes to @tsuspeechanddebate and @therealhudebate . Your excellence, consistency, and competitive spirit truly set the bar and pushed the entire field forward.
As we move into the coming days, we’ll be taking time to debrief honestly and thoughtfully, reflecting on what went well and identifying what could’ve gone better. Our goal is simple: to learn, improve, and ensure that future tournaments run even smoother and stronger for all participants.
The students of Texas Southern University were deeply inspired by the rigor and intensity of the competition across every school. The challenges we faced only sharpened our hunger. We’re excited to reconnect, collaborate, and see how we can ensure we meet you all again this time on the wider circuit.
Looking ahead, we’re especially interested in building a community and space where programs can come together to discuss standards, share practices, support growth, and truly build bonds. Not just competitors, but collaborators. Not just rivals, but friends.

A night to remember ✨

The story of a senator, a congresswoman, a leader, a TSU debater. This documentary explored the life of the remarkable Barbara Jordan. She not only set a standard, but displayed the greatness that derives from Texas Southern University. In the midst of witnessing her life story, there were special appearances by a multitude of current and former TSU debaters.

Movie Night 🍿🎥
Last week, our debaters had the pleasure of diving into the 2014 film, Top 5. They discussed the components of family resentment, compulsory heterosexuality, Houston culture, and sobriety while examining how it’s displayed throughout the film. This RomCom served as a viewing pleasure, promoting the cognitive progression of a debater’s mind in a creative and unique way. by @ktsu_2
