Michigan Ice Fest 2026! Adventure, connection, dancing, night climbing, shenanigans—this year had it all! Now there are so many familiar faces that it feels more like a reunion than just a festival. Still plenty of firsts! First time climbing on a dagger (and I didn’t break it!), first TR solo, pulled my first ice roof (with a cheeky inverse side pull), first experience climbing on unmarred ice, and finally got on Bridalveil Falls!! Huge thanks to Colton, Brenna, Karsten, Brian, Tyler, and Rodel for guiding! Now all that’s left is the Island! (And to win in the gear raffle, haha) Sharing my love for ice climbing with those dear to me, and meeting stellar people I’m looking forward to seeing again, this event sparks joy and whimsy like nowhere else. MIF 2027 can’t come soon enough! In the meantime—anyone want to climb some ice?? by @that.grigri.squeak

My heart is so full. While this was by far the most stressful Rocktoberfest so far, I’m very grateful to those that made it end on such a high note. My favorite event of the year; I’m glad I got to see so many friends over the weekend (and I’m sorry to those that saw me crashing out Saturday). Hopefully next year I’ll have more time to reconnect with people—though I say that every year. As much as I’d like to relish the moment, it’s on to the next! Looking forward to seeing old and new friends at the Stone Fort leg of the last Triple Crown! (I swear I’ll make a 24HHH post at some point) #rocktoberfest2025 by @that.grigri.squeak

Chattanooga, July 4th weekend. I have a bit of a reputation for not liking big group trips—perhaps this changed that. Great times with fantastic people. Some sending, plenty of falling, and @heath.rowland putting the firework shows of small cities to shame. Surprisingly, my first time visiting Chattanooga, but won’t be the last! by @that.grigri.squeak

Michigan Ice Fest has been quite a riot this year !

Climbed along Lake Superior twice, once over the water (my first time doing either).

Took a dry/mixed tooling clinic with the incredible @lindlaukevin that blew my mind to the point that I see climbing with tools completely different.

Linked up and socialized with wonderful people, with plenty of new friendships strengthened or made.

To cap the event, today I ended up being the only person in an Intro to Leading Ice clinic with the fantastic @bookofsamuel. I went in hoping to learn a solid foundation, thinking that I would still be a few years before I lead any ice—and ended up leading my first climb! Still pretty jazzed, time to put in plenty of screws on TR and build the familiarity to get on the sharp end again sooner than later!

Still need to get photos from other people, so perhaps I’ll make a rare second post on an event, haha

Thanks again to all the wonderful people that continue to make this one of my favorite events year after year. Anyone that is curious, please reach out about going next year! #michiganicefest #michiganicefest2025 #iceclimbingisforlovers by @that.grigri.squeak

Somehow managed to forget my own beta mid-climb, but happy it worked out. Back to the Kilter board, haha.

It’s been awhile since I’ve climbed in a group, @4nic84candy and I took @plsdontcallmekim and @halluxknee to the Red a few weeks back and threw them on some ropes, with a @mermeads hopping in for a day.

Hopefully everyone had a good time, all boulderers will see the light—eventually~

Maybe the last photo is grand foreshadowing to Judy becoming a trad climber, hahaha

I feel very fortunate to meet so many wonderful people through my [side] job.

@dyan.young, thanks for flying across the border, only to brave ~20°F (-4 °C) cloudy days and dark nights to romp around the Red earlier this month. Absolutely, one of the highlights of my year.

Next time, I promise the conditions will be better (as will your Miguel’s topping choices) ! by @that.grigri.squeak

Holy Pilgrimage 2024
Whoops, I guess this post is already a couple weeks late. Huge thanks to Grayson for coming out and helping with the booth, it’s quite an endeavor to run it solo 😅 It was great to catch up with old friends and see the Chicago crew roll in hard (congrats @k_risangel on your trophy!). Got some shoes on plenty of great climbers, and kept the booth packed well into the night. The hand jam game is a gift that keeps on giving; nothing builds stoke like watching friends pulling hard, haha. Top male score was a crusher named Dylan with 221% body weight, top female was @lexikron with 203% (which is currently the strongest female of 2024!) @k_jatico in the video tied Lexi with 203% 🫨 Managed to climb a bit on Sunday, though coming away with more projects than sends. Topped the trip off with the mandatory stop at Quatro’s, always the right choice. Hopefully I’ll be back sooner than later! by @that.grigri.squeak

When was Rocktoberfest again? I told myself I’d try to at least make a post for each outdoor event—we’ll see how long this goes 😅 Nerves were high on wanting to nail this event, since it’s the busiest (and my favorite) event of the fall calendar—I couldn’t have asked for more. The booth was a smooth-running riot, our demo and game were a hit (top score was 45 pull ups in a baggy hand jam! 🤯), the small bits of climbing were a blast, and the friends (new and old) were stellar. The fall calendar still rages on, full steam ahead to the next event! by @that.grigri.squeak

NRG Craggin’ Classic recap. First outdoor event as a vendor, pretty jazzed with how it went! The game was a hit, with two crack blocks even getting ripped apart (must be something in the water out there, so many strooooong humans). Got to watch @just_chris_stark try hard (even heard an elusive power yell), got stoked on a trad line that I need to go back and lead, made some new friends, tried SUP for the first time (thanks again @dyan.young !) and met the goofiest (cat) boi. Here’s to hoping that the rest of this densely packed fall season will be just as rad. by @that.grigri.squeak

RRG 7/27/24 - 7/28/24 // Danny’s first trip to the Red, new high point on the proj (still so far to go 😨), bore witness to a potential boulder FA, haha. // Debating on posting some archival-type bundles of photos from the past six years of climbing, though they may not end up chronological. by @that.grigri.squeak
