“I’m back!” This colorful character was thrilled when Chef Kevin asked me to preview the newest @the2dworld installation at @theshopsatnorthbridge . This tribute to Chicago just up the street from the Tribune Building in @themagmile features vignettes highlighting some of my fave Chicago things: traveling via the el or @chicagocta (my main way to get around this “toddling town”), Chinatown (I need a dim sum date soon), Chicago theatre (can’t wait for my next show), Chicago sports, and this month @northalsted takes the organization spot for #pride . Free for all visitors Chicagoans and tourist alike - no cap! But there are several capys and even da Pope!

This is where it all started and came together.

“Between the Streets” by Kevin T Yu is the final chair in The Chairity Project, an artist-led charity initiative within our Immersive 2d Holiday Experience. Raised in the lively streets of Taipei, this piece reflects a worldview shaped by unpredictability, resilience, and opportunity.

Growing up in Taiwan taught me to stay optimistic through uncertainty, to care for others, and to focus on the greater good — values that continue to guide my work and bring me daily joy. This chair lives in the space between movement and pause, chaos and hope, past and future.

The Chairity Project was never just about chairs.
It was about stories.
It was about joy.
It was about artists, community, and choosing generosity — together.

At the end of the exhibition, every chair in this project will be auctioned, with 100% of proceeds supporting local Chicago charities.

Thank you to every artist, collaborator, and guest who made this journey possible. This may be the final chair — but it’s only the beginning of what comes next. by @the.2dworld.nb

Luck is something we carry forward.

“Leap of Fortune” by Vanessa Vu is part of The Chairity Project, an artist-led charity initiative within our Immersive 2d Holiday Experience.

Rooted in Vietnamese folk symbolism and shaped by a life built between cultures, this chair reflects a personal journey told through art.

Inspired by the traditional Vietnamese motif Cá Chép Vượt Vũ Môn — the fish leaping over water — the piece symbolizes perseverance, courage, and good fortune. Lotus flowers represent quiet strength and resilience, while abstract layers of Hạ Long Bay honor heritage.

A subtle Chicago skyline grounds the work in the city that nurtured growth and possibility.

Rendered in Vanessa’s signature black-and-white 2D style, Leap of Fortune is a wish — for luck, resilience, and forward movement — shared with Chicago and beyond.

At the end of the exhibition, this chair — along with all chairs in The Chairity Project — will be auctioned, with 100% of proceeds supporting local Chicago charities.

This chair is for my baby boy.

“Next Stop, Somewhere” by Kevin T Yu is part of The Chairity Project, an artist-led charity initiative within our Immersive 2d Holiday Experience.

Inspired by my son Orion’s love for trains, this piece reflects the journeys ahead — the ones we plan for, and the ones we don’t.

Railroads become a metaphor for parenthood: paths leading into the unknown, guided by care, curiosity, and love. It’s a quiet reflection on the joy of becoming a parent and learning to move forward without knowing exactly where the tracks will lead.

At the end of the exhibition, this chair — along with all chairs in The Chairity Project — will be auctioned, with 100% of proceeds supporting local Chicago charities.

Swipe to see the details and the story behind the piece. 🚂🤍 by @the.2dworld.nb

Chairity Project brings together Chicago-based artists and creatives-from muralists and authors to content creators— each transforming a chair into a one-of-a-kind artwork inspired by what brings them joy in life.
the end of the exhibition, all chairs will be auctioned, and 100% of the proceeds will support local Chicago charities.
