💀 i just want to share my love of horror 🕷
books, movies, tv shows, anything odd 😈

POSTS STORIES REELS

'Tender is the Flesh' is a novel that takes place after something called "The Transition". Due to a virus, animals have become extinct or unsafe to eat, so society legalizes the eating of human meat. Any personal contact between people and the "special meat" is against the law. The MC Marcos works at a human slaughterhouse, where certain humans are bred specifically to be food. He receives a female specimen as a gift, who he names Jasmine, and instead of slaughtering her, he decides to keep her around.

I didn't think a book about cannibalism would affect me so much, but it was extremely disgusting and the ending had my jaw on the floor. If you can handle this type of reading material, I really recommend this book.

This is the classic horror movie 'Incident in a Ghostland'. A mother and her two teenage daughters move into a new house. On their first night there, intruders break in and torment them. Flash forward to 16 years later when one of the daughters, who is now a famous author who wrote a book about that night, comes back home to visit her mom and sister. The movie takes a terrible, horrible twist that I won't go into detail over, but it is such a great, underrated, shocking movie. If you haven't seen it yet, what are you waiting for?!

'The Hills Have Eyes' 👀

A family goes on a road trip and then becomes stranded in a New Mexico desert. Unbeknownst to them, the area was previously used as a nuclear test site, leaving the few residents horribly disfigured. The family is hunted by this vicious clan of cannibals, who kill some of them and kidnap their baby.
This movie is super scary because the villains are not ghosts, entities, or anything spiritual; they are people who just want to kill and consume other people. It took me a long time to watch this because of that. It was really good and suspenseful and I highly recommend!

I recently read 'My Year of Rest and Relaxation' and don't know how I feel about it. A young, wealthy, attractive woman decides to take a break from her life for a year, and just sleep through it. She's dealing with the deaths of both of her parents and just wants an escape from her grief and depression. She has a very unethical psychiatrist who prescribes her tons of different heavy sedatives and downers, including one medication which makes her blackout for 3 days at a time, during which she doesn't just sleep, she goes out into the world and has zero memory of anything that happens.
I didn't like the ending. I won't post any spoilers, but I felt it could've been a tad bit different.

This is 'Heretic', a movie about two young Mormon missionary ladies who are trying to spread the word about their religion. They visit the home of a bizarre but clever man named Mr. Reed. After he invites them inside, their polite conversation about faith turns into a psychological trap. Mr. Reed forces the girls to play a "game" that challenges their religious beliefs, which turns into a fight for survival.

I had high hopes for this one and it didn't disappoint. The whole movie is full of unsettling atmosphere and really pulls you in. Hugh Grant is brilliant in this role.

$'Oculus' follows siblings Tim and Kaylie, and in true Mike Flanagan style, switches back and forth from past to present, to put the story together for its viewers. Kaylie is convinced that an antique mirror is responsible for the madness and violent deaths of their parents; Tim was released from a mental institution, where he spent a decade following their family tragedy. Reality is contorted and their memories of the events are fractured. I had been wanting to see this movie for a long time, and it finally came to one of my subscriptions (U.S. Netflix). #horror #scary #oculus #mikeflanagan by @the.bentnecklady$

I was finally able to rewatch 'The Ring' recently, which is one of my favorite scary movies. In case you haven't seen it yet, it's about a videotape that kills every person who watches it after 7 days. Upon finishing the tape, the phone rings, with a strange voice giving the message "you will die in seven days".

In case you missed my previous post about 'Ringu', this one is a much more thrilling watch! P.S. Who else had nightmares about the girl from the closet when this movie first came out?

'Sinkhole' by John Wayne Comunale is a short story featuring married couple Reggie and Betsy, who one day notice a hole in their backyard. Reggie notices the hole slowly growing larger, and calls the city and the sheriff for help. That night, after dark, the power goes out... and you will have to read it yourself to see what happens. Let's just say a bus full of hungry kids is involved.
This was super creepy and had me waiting to see what would happen next. The buildup was exciting and then the action was horrific!

P.S. I have an autographed copy too, hell yeah!

'I Found a Circus Tent in the Woods Behind My House' is the second book in the 'I found horror' books by Ben Farthing that I've read. If you have a clown phobia, beware. I don't have a phobia of clowns but they do make me extremely uneasy and creep me the hell out. 🤡

This story is about a father and his four-year-old son Jacob who go walking in the woods behind their house and discover a mysterious circus tent has appeared there. The tent pulls them inside, and they get lost in a huge maze of tents filled with creepy clowns and other circus performers. They all want Jacob and his father to perform for them in order to possibly escape.

This book was a fun read and really gave me the heebie-jeebies with all of the scary clowns. I am getting ready to start another 'I found horror' book and can't wait to see what happens! But it will be hard to top the clowns in this book 😱

I finally read 'Incidents Around the House' and boy is it scary. This story is narrated in the first person by a little girl named Bela, whose parents' marriage starts falling apart. Bela makes a friend called "Other Mommy" who lives in her closet. This entity always asks Bela the same question, "Can I go inside your heart?" This 'friend' wants to trade places with Bela. Paranormal events start happening in their house as Other Mommy grows stronger and Bela realizes Other Mommy isn't a friend.

It's interesting to read from the point of view of an 8 year old and how she processes these events. The movie based on this book, called 'Other Mommy' is out and I can't wait to watch it and see how it compares to the book.

'Earthlings' is one of the strangest books I've read, in a good way. The main character Natsuki grows up in Japan with a family who ignores her, and a teacher who takes advantage of her. She never felt like she fit in and believes she is actually an alien from a planet called Popinpobopia. Her cousin Yuu is the only person she feels a connection with, and he also thinks he's an alien. They call life on Earth "the factory" and wait for their spaceship to take them back home. The book gets stranger the farther you get into it, and it was hard to put down.

I'd been wanting to rewatch 'The Ring' since I haven't seen it in about 20 years, but couldn't find it streaming anywhere, so I decided to watch the original Japanese 'Ringu' instead. I always heard it was much more scary than the American version and was excited to see it.

I was very disappointed. First off, the main character's face is stuck in an eternal smile / smirk, no emotion whatsoever. No fear, no anxiety, just that Judge Reinhold-type of never ending smily face. (Even when she pulled the girl out of the water, or the skeleton of the girl, there was no shock, no disgust, no fear, just her emotionless face.) Secondly, I was so bored watching it that I couldn't wait for it to be over. 'At least I'll get to see the creepy part where the girl climbs out of the TV', I thought. Another letdown. The scene was about 1/16 as scary as the American version and didn't last as long either. Maybe it's something with the different culture, but normally I really enjoy Asian movies and shows. Reading captions doesn't bother me at all and even with English speaking movies, I keep captions on.

I just can't believe I wasted almost 2 hours of my life on this movie. Is it just me?? Did I miss something? I really didn't want to give this movie an entire post, but my rant was too long for a story 😅
