DID YOU KNOW WE ALSO ACT AS AN ART GALLARY FOR LOCAL ARTISTS: @the.sassafrascafe

We love celebrating creativity here at The Sassafras Café, and our walls are always home to rotating pieces from local artists. Each piece of artwork brings a little more colour, character and personality into our space and for that we are forever grateful.

Some of the artwork comes from our very own barista @matildaddixon (slide 1, 3, 6). Tilly is an incredible human and artist, and at just 18 years old her work has already been showcased in the NGV. (Yes we are forever in awe of this one). @bytillyd

All of the pieces you see in the café are available to purchase. When you buy a work from our wall, you’re directly supporting a local artist and helping keep creativity thriving in our community. It’s one of the simplest, most meaningful ways to support the people who make the Dandenong Ranges such a special place.

If you’re visiting for a coffee, lunch, or a wander through the village, take a moment to explore the art around the café. You might find something that speaks to you, or discover a new favourite local maker.

Supporting local isn’t just a phrase here — it’s part of who we are, and we’re proud to share this space with the creators in our community.

It's the small things that make the biggest difference.

** if you are a local artist and want to showcase some work, you know where to find us **

With deep love.

Our Cafe, Our Story: @the.sassafrascafe

Why choose us?

The Sassafras Café was created as a space rooted in nature, community and intentional living here on our beautiful mountain. #dandenongranges

Our philosophy is inspired by the mycelium network that runs beneath the forest floor — a living system of connection, nourishment and communication. Just like the mycelium threads that quietly support the entire ecosystem, our café exists to support the community around it.

Everything we offer reflects this ethos.

We prioritise organic ingredients, sustainable sourcing, and partnerships that honour land, animals, and the environment.

Our food and drinks are crafted to feel simple, clean, and alive — nourishment in its most natural form and we are proud to work closely with producers whose values align with our own, some of which are;

• Otways Pastures Biodynamic Milk – from regenerative dairy farms committed to soil health and biodynamic principles.

• Farm-to-table eggs – locally sourced from ethical, high-welfare farms.

• Olinda Spring Water – pure spring water drawn directly from the hills we call home.

• Superfast Organic Mushrooms – organically grown mushrooms that reflect the forest’s own intelligence and rhythms.

These partnerships form the backbone of our story.

The Sassafras Café intends to be a place to slow down, reconnect, and feel part of something living.

Just as the mycelium nourishes the forest from beneath, we aim to nourish our community from within — through food, through atmosphere, and through a shared respect for the natural world.

This is more than a café.
It is a living system.
A grounded space.
A quiet network of connection at the centre of our village.

And the very first, of the ever expanding realm of our owners own mind.

Keep your eyes peeled for the two new business's @r.e.a.__l.u.n.a is opening our sweet, serene street.

With deep love,

WE FINALLY SECURED FARM TO TABLE ORGANIC EGGS @the.sassafrascafe

A huge win for us!! 🐥🐥🐥🍳

Since opening the cafe, our owner reigan has been on a mission to work with a local chicken farm where she can get to know the chickens that lay your eggs, and their owners.

It's no secret that the treatment of the animals who's produce we consume directly effects our own energy, and for us at the sassafras cafe it is so important that our animal produce comes from organic, free range farms where the animals are treated with love and care.

Reigan has of course still be using free range eggs with less that 50 chickens per hectare but yesterday she finally locked in with a beautiful local lady who runs her chicken farm just down in Belgrave, a small 6 minute drive from the cafe.

Leah and her family are absolutely incredible humans who adore their chickens and treat them as part of their family, they run free and even get brought into the house during rain and storms, they are so loved and this is exactly what reigan wanted for our eggs.

Reigan will have the chance to meet the chickens every week, checking in with their personalities and sharing her love - meaning all your eggs now, are as natural and as organic as can be.

Stay tuned for weekly chicken updates!!!

This is another massive step within the mission for our cafe.

We desire to work ONLY with suppliers who support the organic health and farming industry, working against the toxic corporations and chains who poison our animals, our food, our bodies and our minds.

Coming back to our natural bodily connections, and functions with one conscious choice at a time.

** look at your egggies the way reigan does **

More updates soon 🌞

With love,
@the.sassafrascafe team

MATCHA IN THE SUNSHINE: @the.sassafrascafe

Did you know that we offer organic, traditional Japanese matcha at our lil cafe, (we source only the best).

You can enjoy your Matcha hot, on ice, or with strawberry like Reigan.

The blend we offer is sustainably sourced by HIKARI, a company who thrive on sustainable farming partnerships with all production made with nothing but the purest intentions of presence, and light.

WHAT IS MATCHA? 🍵

Matcha is a vibrant green tea powder known for its rich flavor, smooth texture, and incredible health benefits. Originating in Japan, matcha has been cherished for centuries in traditional tea ceremonies. It's a fantastic alternative to coffee.

HIKARI, take pride in offering a premium matcha experience, with their organic matcha sourced directly from the serene hills of Shizuoka, Japan. Beyond its vibrant color and rich flavor, matcha has been revered for centuries for its numerous health benefits.

WE.LOVE.

SO WHAT DOES MATCHA DO FOR THE BODY & WHY DO WE LOVE IT🌞

1. Rich in Antioxidants: 🌸

Matcha is packed with powerful antioxidants, especially catechins like EGCG, which help protect your body from free radicals and reduce the risk of chronic diseases.

2. Boosts Metabolism:💅

Catechins in matcha, especially EGCG, enhance the body’s process of heat production, known as thermogenesis. This process increases energy expenditure, helping the body burn more calories even when at rest.

3. Promotes Calm Focus and Relaxation:🧘🏻‍♀️

Unlike coffee, matcha provides a balanced energy boost without the jitters. The unique combination of caffeine and L-theanine in our organic matcha creates a calm yet focused state, making it perfect for work or study.

4. Detoxifies Naturally: 🍏

Our particular blend is full in chlorophyll, which not only gives it its beautiful green hue but also helps cleanse the body of harmful toxins, promoting overall wellness.

SO - get down in the sunshine and give our organic matcha a try, we would love to hear what you think!! 🌞🍑🍌🍊🍒🌸

Hello lovers, after an 18 month evolution, we finally have the capacity to share our sweet soul online, and the first thing we want to share with you all, is about how much effort goes into the produce we serve on your nourishing plate.

US 💕

At the Sassafras Cafe we value health and soul above all else, since taking over this gem 18 months ago, our owner Reigan has been completely committed to ensuring that our cafe mirrors her own values, and lifestyle morals.

The result of this, is that our cafe proudly serves locally sourced organic produce, from our homemade jam to our yummy breakfast and lunch meals, from our soda ranges, to the milk we use - and everything inbetween.. you guessed it: ALL ARE ORGANIC/ BIODYNAMIC/ LOCALLY SOURCED.

We strongly believe that the food we consume acts as a healer or a dis-ease enabler, which is why we at @the.sassafrascafe are so committed to serving food that heals.

Another strong influence from Reigan is her love of medicinal mushrooms, which are scientifically proven to have NUMEROUS health and healing benefits for all consumers.

And yep, we proudly stock @superfeast organic mushroom blends, which can be added to any hot drink, or can be digested as a wellness tonic.

With us, you can find your daily dose of LIONS MANE, CORDECYPES, CHAGA, TURKEY TAIL, REISHI AND TREMELLA medicinal mushrooms 🍄🍄
