The #Mets got arguably the STEAL of the 2026 MLB Draft last night, snagging outfielder Aiden Robbins out of University of Texas in the 3rd round. Robbins, coming off a season where his 24 HRs in 60 games for Texas was ranked 10th nationally, was projected to be a 1st round pick — ranked the 28th overall prospect by Baseball America and 29th by MLB Pipeline. Instead, the Mets ended up getting him around 65 spots past the consensus value with the 92nd pick. The Mets had to be thrilled Robbins fell to them there, as there was reportedly some chatter that they’d take him with their 1st round pick at 27th overall. They didn’t have a 2nd round pick. Robbins, 21, is coming off a monster 2026 season for Texas where he batted .333 with 24 HRs, 64 RBIs, and a 1.122 OPS over 60 games. Before that, Robbins put up a .302 batting average and .880 OPS as a freshman at Seton Hall in 2024. Then as a sophomore at Seton Hall in 2025, Robbins’ .537 OBP ranked 5th nationally and his .422 average was the 6th best in the country. Over the last few years, Robbins has displayed some of the best offensive skills of any hitter in the country at the college level. Standing at 6’2, 205 pounds, Robbins has a quick right-handed swing with an aggressive approach and rising power at the plate — also someone who particularly someone who mashes fastballs (.454 average, .928 slugging vs fastballs in 2026). Robbins dropped for a combination of different reasons, including questions over his swing mechanics since it’s unconventional, concern with his bat against off-speed pitches, and defensive profile as a likely corner OF. Regardless, this was an absolute steal for the Mets to get such a raw bat with speed (20 steals in 2026), and a solid glove at the corner spots of the OF as a 3rd rounder. After finishing the season ranked 5th nationally, a run in the Men's College World Series and posting a 46-15 overall record, the Longhorns season has come to an end. Aiden Robbins had a historic 2026 baseball season where he earned SEC Newcomer of the Year honors and status as a Golden Spikes Award Semifinalist. Aiden also led the Longhorns in 11 offensive categories, posting a .348 batting average, 24 home runs, and a 1.132 OPS Alongside Aiden, Adrian Rodriguez batted an outstanding .500 in the Austin Super Regional and hit .636 (7-for-11) in the regionals prior to the College World Series. Once in Omaha, Rodriguez batted .667 (18-for-27) over his first seven tournament games. Overall the Longhorns had an impressive season showcasing their dedication to the sport.
