POSTS STORIES REELS

It's funny how we expect ourselves to have all the answers in the moment.
To know exactly what we want, how we feel, and how to explain it to someone else.

But life doesn't always give us that kind of clarity.

Sometimes we need to make mistakes, lose something, or experience a little more of life before we can understand what was happening all along.

Sometimes the words only come after the lesson.

Go ahead... just guess ... by @the_kev_ray

Small in size. Powerful in voice. This antique amp is a reminder that you don’t have to be the biggest or loudest thing in the room to make an impact. Sometimes the quietest thoughts carry the most weight, and the things we struggle to say are the ones that matter most.

That’s really the heart of Untitled #1. A song about unspoken feelings, finding the right words, and the realization that sometimes clarity comes a little too late.

Because even the smallest voice deserves to be heard.

‘If I knew just what to say, I’d have said it from the start.’

We’ve all had those moments where we look back and wish we’d said something differently, or said something at all.
Sometimes it takes distance and time to understand what we really wanted to say.
And sometimes, by the time we find the right words, the moment to say them has already passed.

Untitled #1 is out now wherever you stream your music.

‘If I knew just what to say I’d have said it from the start’

At times, you know how you feel...and can’t seem to find the right words to say it. And even the right words are sometimes hard to understand.

We’ve all been there...thinking about things left unsaid...because sometimes the words we struggle to find are the ones that matter most.

Hindsight can bring clarity, but the clarity can come too late.

New track, Untitled #1 is out this Sunday on Spotify.

Some songs are written. Others are lived

We all have seasons that take more from us than we ever imagined we had to give. Loss, doubt, change, heartbreak, the moments that drain every last bit of emotional energy and force us to finally face the things we’ve been putting off, telling ourselves we’ll deal with them someday.

And then someday arrives.

Seven years ago, in the middle of my own season of profound loss, I wrote Stingray Romeo. Looking back now, it’s hard to believe how much of that moment was captured in a song and how much of its meaning would continue to evolve with me.

This one is for all the Stingray Romeos out there. https://open.spotify.com/track/6OuHDy1jjzFUHIUvfzgxzC?si=nGoGFHvaSfetcSWf1Yq7aA&utm_source=copy-link by @the_kev_ray

What is a “Stingray Romeo” you ask? Well...in my case it’s a 14-year-old lothario who has no problem with embarrassing himself in the name of test driving his pre-frontal cortex! Back then, I used to ride my sister’s Stingray bicycle over to my girlfriend’s house, convinced I was the smoothest guy in town. Then again...not so much. 🙄

The original lyric was “Romeo on a Stingray,” a little nod to that teenage version of me. Eventually, I changed it to “Romeo in a Stingray,” but the joke remains.

So when you hear that little laugh near the end of the song, that’s me still poking fun at the 14-year-old kid who thought he had it all figured out. Ah, the man who can laugh at himself will never cease to be amused.

Birthdays have a funny way of making you look back. At where you’ve been, what you’ve learned, what you’ve lost, what you’ve rebuilt, and everything that’s still ahead.

I’m lucky that I get to take some of those feelings and turn them into music.

Stingray Romeo is one of those songs.

It carries pieces of lessons learned, mistakes made, growing, rebuilding and becoming a little wiser along the way.

At 70, I’m still learning. Still creating. Still finding new stories worth telling. And I don’t plan on stopping anytime soon.

When does a song become more than just words? When it’s the roadmap for rebuilding…for reframing…for recommitting. We all have year(s) of great loss and self-doubt…the kind that use every ounce of emotional reserve, leaving you with nothing. And sometimes they force you to deal with all of the things that you “set aside to deal with later.” When your “pile of denial” topples, you have two choices…give up…or keep moving. At times that means lifting your legs up and down when you’re slogging in the mud. But you keep moving…and write a song like Stingray Romeo. Hard for me to believe that I wrote it seven years ago when I had to “keep moving” after my year of great loss. If you haven’t had a year of great loss, you will…if you’re lucky. Hope you enjoy the song…especially all of the Stingray Romeos out there.
