📄 recycled paper 📄

We had a lot of paper at home that had been used for notes and drawings and decided we would try to recycle them! To make homemade paper you usually need a blender and a deckle but we used minimal equipment and got beautiful results! The process was not only really interesting, it was great sensory fun and brilliant for E to doscus recycling and reusing - check out our method below ⬇️

✂️ Chop your paper as small as possible, shredded paper works well too!

💦 add lukewarm water

🖐️ squash, roll, squish and smush the paper until it forms a pastey texture. You want it to not resemble paper anymore - a little bit like a chunky wallpaper paste

🪣 sieve the mixture to remove as much water as possible

🌺 add dried flower petals (optional)

🫳 shape the “goo” into a rough paper shape on top of some scrap fabric or an old tea towel

🧑‍🍳 place another piece of fabric on top and roll the paper flat (you want it as thin as possible)

🍌carefully peel the top layer of fabric off and leave to air dry over night before flipping over to peel off the bottom layer of fabric

🎨 now you’re ready to get creative! This paper will be much more rustic than a blended version but it’s made with love and your hands!

💎panning for crystals 💎

In between rain showers we explored this fun activity using our @connetix_tiles as dispensers we then sieved the sand away and discovered the beautiful crystals that were hiding.

E loved this and fell into her role as crystal hunter very seriously!

🧚‍♂️fairy dough 🧚‍♂️

Truly in our fairy era and I’m here for it, a request for fairy playdough was made and I hope I delivered! We love set ups like this where E can tinker and explore with no real goal or product in mind. Lots of natural loose parts and a sprinkle of magic ✨

🪵Dead wood detective 🔍 🪵

We were very kindly sent the amazing Curiosity Crew pack from @curiositycompanions and have been thoroughly enjoying exploring the different activities it offers. The stories and facts are so inspiring and captured E’s attention straight away! We decided to create a forest floor sensory tray and explore the secret life of a deadwood log! Using our little mouse we explored fungi, minibeast and other tiny creatures that resided in the wood. Check out my stories for a sneak peek into the fabulous pack

🦇 batty about you! 🦇

While in wales we couldn’t resist taking a craft with us, we collected fallen twigs thanks to this weeks storms and made this super cute pinecone bat!
We added felt features and made sure to swoop and soar him through the air!

🧪 bubbling cauldron 🧪

These long nights drawing in call for cosy play under twinkly lights - with a touch of spook for good measure! The light panel always brings play to life and we’ve never tried fizz potions on it before so this felt extra magical!

🧙 forest witch 🧙

Hubble, bubble, toil and trouble! The forest witch is brewing magical potions and concoctions deep in the woods 💚 this has to be our favourite way to play, tapioca pearl slime, fizz mix and sparkly mica added extra magical touches to our play. We added bashed conkers to the water to release their natural sapins and then added fizz mix which made the most incredible natural foam!!

🌕full moon lantern 🌕

The nights have grown darker, the days are getting shorter and onto celebrate this special full moon we made lanterns. Using our paper punches to cut leaves we adorned a jam jar before lighting and seeing the patterns reflected in the light 🕯️
Octobers full moon often known as the hunters moon symbolises the turning of the wheel and changing of the seasons. Shifting from the light to the dark half of the year, Mother Nature begins her slow relax into winters slumber 💤

🎃 🍁 autumn sounds 🍂 🧡

I think I officially declare it autumn! The clocks have fallen back, the weather has changed and there’s a distinct chill in the air! E has been so fascinated with phonics and learning her sounds I combined it with this beautiful but simple sensory tray to explore and a sneaky little bit of sound practice. I wrote some spooky words onto our wipe clean board and then she searched for the initial sound of each word hidden in the spiders web. I had also written some cvc words for her to try sounding out, which independently lead to her having a go at writing her own words! Love this kind of play 🍂🧡

🌳oak the littlest leaf girl 🌳

One of our most favourite stories at this time of year is Oak the Littlest Leaf girl, a gentle reminder that although change can be worrying it isn’t always bad! We decided to make our own little leaf girl complete with oak leaf wings with delicate touches of with gold and silver 🪽 E carefully observed the pictures and added her facial features and own little personality to her doll.

Metallic crayons and leaf tiles kindly gifted from @kcs_education

🍁 leaf people! 🍁

On a walk in our lost favourite woods we gathered lots of fallen leaves in so many colours. E had a wonderful idea to draw round herself and design clothing for her using the leaves! This was such a fun craft and we had a lovely time thinking of different clothing and styles we could design!
