Hon’ble President Smt. Droupadi Murmu Ji commemorated Akshaya Patra’s 25 years of service and the momentous milestone of 5 billion meals at Rashtrapati Bhavan on 17 March 2026. In a heartfelt gesture, she even personally fed children with her own hands at the event.

We were also honoured by the presence of Hon’ble Education Minister Shri Dharmendra Pradhan Ji, along with our Chairman Shri Madhu Pandit Dasa Ji and Vice Chairman Shri Chanchalapathi Dasa Ji.

This milestone reflects the power of collective effort towards a Suposhit and Sushikshit Bharat for Viksit Bharat. We are grateful to all our partners, donors and stakeholders for being part of this incredible journey.

A meal is more than nourishment. It is an expression of care, a gesture of dignity and a promise of hope.

Every meal we share has the power to make a difference, bringing people closer to a healthier, more hopeful tomorrow.

Because when we share food, we share a better future.

Akshaya Patra India is the world’s largest community kitchen network and school feeding NGO. They feed 2.35m school children in India on a daily basis ! Their motto is ‘Unlimited food for education’ - a hungry child will never be able to imbibe learning in a classroom. Akshaya Patra has also developed the scale and process excellence whereby a mere SGD 21 contribution ensures a mid-day meal for a child for an entire academic year!

Nandan fondly remembers the years when Akshaya Patra's mid-day meals were part of his school life at GHS Uttarahalli. He recalls the delicious meals being served and how they helped him focus on his lessons, sports and the many experiences that made school memorable.

As Nandan grew older, so did his aspirations. He dreamt of pursuing higher education, but his family's financial circumstances made the journey challenging. With his father working as an electrician and his mother managing the household, college fees became a heavy burden, and at one point he feared he might have to discontinue his studies after completing his bachelor's degree.

Akshaya Patra's AVSAR Scholarship Programme helped him continue his education, supporting him through college and later as he pursued his MA in Economics. With his parents' encouragement and a determination to make the most of the opportunity, Nandan completed his postgraduate studies.

Today, Nandan is an IT professional at KPMG in Bengaluru. He continues to nurture the dreams he had as a student: to become independent, support his family and one day help others… just as he was helped along the way.

We are proud of Nandan's journey and honoured to have supported him as he worked towards his aspirations. His story reminds us that with the right opportunities and belief in oneself, challenges need not define the future. by @theakshayapatrafoundation

A school is more than a place to learn. It’s where curious minds discover, friendships bloom and new possibilities come to life.

With every touch, every lesson and every new experience, children discover a world full of colour and begin to imagine a brighter future.

A school is where they add colour to their lives.
