🇭🇷 A few phrases that will make your Croatia trip a little easier. The good news? Most Croatians speak excellent English. The even better news? Learning a few local words is one of the fastest ways to connect with people and show respect for the place you’re visiting. ✨ Fun fact: Dialects change quite a bit across Croatia. This list is tailored to the Dalmatian coast, so you’ll be ready for everything from Split and the islands to Dubrovnik. ✨ Local tip: If you’re struggling with “Hvala”, don’t stress too much. Along the coast, you’ll often hear locals shorten it to “Fala” in everyday conversation. Save this for your Croatia trip and follow @theanchorcroatia for more local tips, island recommendations, itineraries and sailing inspiration. 🏝️⚓️ by @theanchorcroatia
You might know Hvar Island for its famous beach clubs, superyacht-filled harbour, and Beyoncé’s favourite restaurant. But we know a different side. And there’s so much more to this island than its summer reputation suggests. 🏝️ A mini guide to Hvar Island, Croatia. 📍🗺️ 01. Get lost in Stari Grad. Founded in 384 BC, it’s one of Croatia’s oldest towns. Wander its historic streets, visit poet Petar Hektorović’s 16th-century summer residence, and explore the UNESCO-listed Stari Grad Plain. 02. See the island through a local’s eyes. Explore ancient villages, vineyards, and incredible viewpoints with a local guide. You can even tour the island in a colourful vintage Beetle! Look for independent historians, storytellers, or wine tours for an experience beyond the usual tourist stops. 03. Give Hvar Town more than an afternoon. Visit the historic 1612 theatre and St. Stephen’s Cathedral, discover the specialty coffee scene, and catch live music at Central Park Club. For dinner, we love Moli Onte in nearby Milna, especially when arriving by boat. 04. Escape to the Pakleni Islands. Just offshore, you’ll find pine-covered islands, secluded coves, and beautiful waterfront restaurants. Spend half a day or longer exploring by boat, swimming, and stopping for a long lunch by the sea. 05. Discover Hvar’s lavender country. Head inland towards Velo Grablje and Brusje, where lavender cultivation is part of the island’s heritage. Visit in early summer for the best chance of seeing it in bloom. Our advice? Don’t come just for the beach clubs. Give yourself time to get to know the island. SAVE this mini guide for your trip to Hvar. 🇭🇷 ⛵ Private yacht charters and sailing experiences: sail@anchorcroatia.com by @theanchorcroatia
Career goals are great, but have you considered making this your definition of success? Fewer meeting minutes, more sunset yoga. Less checking the clock, more losing track of time. Fewer deadlines, more days At sea. If I’m not somewhere off the coast of Croatia in five years time, something’s not right. ____________ Bookings: sail@anchorcroatia.com by @theanchorcroatia

Your swimming pool is the Adriatic Sea. Lunch is wherever you decide to drop anchor, and your next destination is entirely up to you. When you have all the comforts of home, a captain who knows the coastline like the back of his hand, and an entire week to explore, that’s when you can really experience the magic of Croatia. If you’ve never considered swapping a hotel for a yacht charter, let this be your sign to rethink your 2027 itinerary. Our biggest early booking offer is here! A MINI GUIDE TO VIS TOWN 🇭🇷 If Vis Town isn’t on your Croatia bucket list yet, allow us to make a case for it. This little harbour town has a pretty convincing combination of ancient history, exceptional Dalmatian food, and special way of making time slow down. Here’s our argument for adding it to your itinerary. 01. You can walk through 2,000 years of history in a single afternoon. Once the ancient Greek colony of Issa, Vis later became a Yugoslav military stronghold, closed to foreign visitors for decades. Today, wander the old stone streets of Kut, visit the Archaeological Museum, discover Roman ruins, or explore the island’s abandoned military tunnels on a guided tour. 02. It’s worth sailing here for dinner alone. Vis is known for its traditional Dalmatian cooking, fresh seafood, and local wines. 🍽️ @restaurant_pojoda Traditional island dishes and excellent seafood. 🍽️ @konoba_vatrica A lovely spot in Kut for a relaxed dinner. What to try: Viška pogača, a traditional anchovy and onion pie, paired with a glass of locally produced Vugava wine. Book ahead in July and August. 03. You could easily spend another day exploring what’s nearby. 📍 Grandovac Beach: A pretty pebble beach just outside town, perfect for an afternoon swim. 📍 Fort George: A historic British fortress with spectacular sea views and a beautiful sunset setting. 📍 Stončica Bay: A sandy bay with shallow water, ideal for swimming and a long seaside lunch. If you’re exploring by yacht, arrange an overnight berth or suitable anchorage in Vis Bay, head ashore for dinner, and wake up with the town on your doorstep. Your skipper can advise on the best option for the conditions. Save this mini guide for your Croatia itinerary. And if you’re sailing with Anchor Croatia, we’ll happily help you make room for Vis. 📩 sail@anchorcroatia.com by @theanchorcroatia
A rather convincing argument for doing absolutely nothing. A second coffee because there’s nowhere to be. A swim before breakfast, another after. Salt on your skin while you dry off in the sun. A glass of wine with lunch because no one has to drive. An unplanned nap. A dinghy ride ashore for an espresso. Back on board before anyone has the chance to suggest a hike. Someone asks what day it is, but no one is sure. Somewhere along the Dalmatian coast, the hours start to lose their importance. No body is particularly interested in the time. That’s the plan, anyway. by @theanchorcroatia
Core memories being made somewhere along the Croatian coast. ☀️⛵️ Barefoot mornings on the boat. Breakfast overlooking a different island every day. Jumping into the sea a hundred times before lunch. Salty hair, afternoon naps in the shade, and falling asleep to the gentle rocking of the sea. And the best part is you get to have all these adventures without giving up the comforts of home. Your own bedrooms, bathrooms, a kitchen stocked with everyone’s favourite snacks, and plenty of space for the whole family to settle in. No packing and unpacking. No dragging suitcases between hotels. Your own floating home, with a new island to explore whenever you’re ready. If you’ve been putting off that trip to Croatia because you’re waiting for the kids to get older, consider this your sign to bring them along. And here’s your sign to get planning: Anchor Croatia yacht charters for the 2027 season are currently up to 20% off when booked before January 1st! Now’s the perfect time to lock in next summer’s family holiday, with a catamaran that suits your crew and an itinerary designed around your family. 📩 sail@anchorcroatia.com by @theanchorcroatia
Croatian phrases you should learn before your next trip 🇭🇷 Part 3! This time we’re getting a little more specific. Asking for a table at a restaurant, ordering your morning coffee, or politely explaining that you have absolutely no idea what someone just said to you. 😂 We’ve also included a few Dalmatian variations, because the Croatian you’ll hear along the coast isn’t always quite the same as what you’ll find in a language textbook. And don’t worry about getting every word perfect. Most locals will appreciate the effort, even if your pronunciation needs a little work! Save this one for your next trip to Croatia. We’ve included easy pronunciations on every slide to help you out. 🇭🇷 Croatian speakers, what should we teach in part 4? by @theanchorcroatia
These are 3 of the spots we’d sail you to if you told us you hate crowds. ⛵️ We get it. Everyone visiting Croatia wants to see Dubrovnik, Hvar Town, and the famous Blue Lagoon. But if your idea of the perfect Croatian summer involves turquoise bays, sleepy fishing villages, and long lunches without waitlist, we have a few places in mind for you. 📍 Lopud, Elafiti Islands – Car-free island life and stunning sandy beaches 📍 Komiža, Vis Island – A traditional fishing town with colourful boats lining the harbour, restaurants right on the sea, and some of the best seafood around. 📍 Bobovišća, Brač Island – A tiny village tucked into a sheltered bay, where you can drop anchor, swim, and enjoy everything the island has to offer And the best part of sailing with @theanchorcroatia is that the itinerary is entirely up to you. Every one of our charters is fully customizable, with itineraries designed around your interests by local Croatian sailing and travel experts. Tell us what your perfect day (or week!) looks like, and we’ll take care of the details. 🌟 2027 EARLY BIRD OFFER: UP TO 20% OFF! 🌟 All of our 2027 sailboat and catamaran charters are currently on sale, with discounts of up to 20% when you book before January 1, 2027. ✉️ Email sail@anchorcroatia.com to start planning by @theanchorcroatia
When the flashbacks hit in the middle of a stressful workday on a random Tuesday in October. 🥲 I think about ✨this feeling✨ all the time. Laying out on the net in the morning sun. Nowhere to be. No decisions to make. The hardest question of the day is whether to swim now or after lunch. Swim. Tan. Eat. Drink. Repeat. And if you’re already thinking about next summer too, this is the best time to make it happen. Our 2027 sailboat and catamaran charters are up to 20% off when booked before January 1. __________________ Bookings: sail@anchorcroatia.com by @theanchorcroatia
