Insightful conversations about the lifelong process of becoming —exploring aging, beauty, purpose, and personal growth with curiosity and intention.

POSTS STORIES REELS

Girlfriends... if your sleep, mood, memory, or libido feels different lately, you're not imagining it. And it may not be "just aging." 🤔

On this week's episode of The Becoming Years, I sat down with nurse practitioner Nora Lersch to talk perimenopause, menopause, hormones, and why women deserve to be heard by a medical community that too often isn't listening.

Nora has more than 30 years of nursing experience in menopause care and oncology, and she runs a sexual health and menopause clinic for cancer patients in Portland. For women with a cancer history, hormone therapy may be an option, depending on the cancer and personal circumstances, and when it isn't, there are still other ways to address symptoms.

We cover:
✨ Why perimenopause can start years before your periods change
✨ Why a single hormone test may not tell the whole story
✨ What the Women's Health Initiative really means for you today
✨ Symptoms that go way beyond hot flashes
✨ Bone health, painful sex (never something to brush aside!), and libido as a whole-person conversation
✨ Supplements, treatment timelines, insurance costs, and finding a clinician who actually listens

The big takeaway: care isn't one-size-fits-all, and you don't have to navigate this alone.

Most people don’t fail at goals—they fail at honesty.

If you want @alazaros88 's Top 10 Distractions checklist mentioned in the podcast, comment “TRACK” and I’ll send it.

Alan said something that hit hard:
If you’re not measuring it, you’re guessing.

If you’re guessing, you’re drifting.

If you keep drifting, you call it “life” when it’s really avoidance.

What I loved most is this: you don’t need a new personality.

It's more self-awareness, more self-acceptance, and then better systems.

That means:
Pick three priorities
Tie each one to a number
Tell the truth when you’re off track
Adjust without shame

That’s the difference between feeling busy and actually moving forward.

Alan brought the wisdom, the systems, and just enough truth to make us laugh…and rethink our entire to-do list.

Save this for the next time you need a reset.

What if the behaviors you’re trying to “fix”—overworking, overeating, hoarding, choosing unhealthy relationships, withdrawing, or sabotaging your own success—aren’t random flaws? What if they’re clues?

This episode is with my dear friend @charleneunderhillmiller,
PhD (psychotherapist, MFT, and one of the wisest people I know) and we're getting into it: relationship patterns, work patterns, the way we parent, the way we eat when we're stressed... turns out a lot of it traces back way further than we think to patterns we absorbed before we had words for them.

Charlene helped me see these patterns without the shame spiral. Instead of "why did I do that?" (which just keeps you stuck), we talk about better questions to ask yourself — ones that actually lead somewhere.

If you've ever caught yourself repeating a pattern and thought "not this again," this episode is for you. 💛

What if the real problem at work isn’t the team - it’s the fear lurking under the surface?

I sat down with Debbie Longo to talk about workplace culture, employee conflict, and what actually changes a negative environment.

Her answer was simple, and hard to hear: Most workplace behavior is downstream from fear.

Fear at home.
Fear about money.
Fear about being judged.
Fear about saying the wrong thing.

And when people don’t deal with it, it shows up anyway - in gossip, attitude, defensiveness, resentment, and burnout.

The energy you bring into work doesn’t stay invisible. Listen to the full conversation if you need this one today. 👆

*New Episode* ✨ What if the things we think make us “less beautiful” are actually part of what makes us more whole?

I had the most fascinating conversation with Margaret Gardiner about her book, Damaged Beauty: Joey Superstar, and I cannot wait for you to hear this one. ❤️

As a former Beauty Queen (Miss Universe), Golden Globes Fashion Editor and Journalist, Margaret has spent decades watching people navigate beauty, identity, success, loss, resilience, and the complicated expectations we place on ourselves.

In our conversation, she shares the life lessons she’s gathered - not just from her own experiences, but from the stories and struggles she has witnessed throughout her career.

🌿 There’s so much here that goes far beyond beauty - it's really about becoming.

We talk about what happens when life doesn’t turn out the way we imagined, how our experiences shape the way we see ourselves, and why the things we once considered our “flaws” can become some of our greatest sources of wisdom. And online bullying? Jump to 43:04 in the episode to learn how Margaret handled this with supernatural grace. ✨

If you’ve ever looked in the mirror and wondered if you were enough… if you’ve ever felt changed by something life handed you… or if you’re simply curious about what we can learn from the lives of others, I think this episode will stay with you.

Have you ever looked around and wondered why some women seem to bounce back from life's hardest moments while others stay stuck questioning themselves?

I've been thinking about that a lot lately.

In this week's episode of The Becoming Years, I sat down with the incredible Dame Clarissa Burt—former supermodel, international media personality, author, and one of the most genuine women I've had the privilege of talking with.

And here's what surprised me...

We didn't spend our time talking about beauty.

We talked about self-esteem.

The kind that helps you set healthy boundaries.

The kind that carries you through rejection.

The kind that reminds you that your worth was never tied to your appearance, your accomplishments, or someone else's opinion of you.

Clarissa shares the four pillars she believes every woman needs:
✨ Look good.
✨ Feel good.
✨ Be good.
✨ Give back.

Simple words... but such powerful reminders.

If you've ever felt like you're "too much," not enough, overlooked, or you're trying to find your footing in a new season of life, I think this conversation will meet you exactly where you are.

One thing she said has stayed with me: self-esteem isn't something we're born with—it's something we intentionally build.

And I think every woman needs to hear that.

Grab a cup of coffee, take a walk, or listen on your drive today. Then come back and tell me what resonated with you most. I'd truly love to hear.
