🌟 MEMBER OF THE MONTH 🌟 A huge congratulations to our May member of the month, Thomas! Thomas has been training at Snap Pukekohe for over a year now and continues to inspire us with his determination, resilience, and positive attitude. Despite being fully blind he never lets anything get in the way of his goals and consistently shows up every week. Outside the gym, Thomas is an alpine skier with some exciting achievements already under his belt including being nominated by Snow Sports NZ to be part of the Parasport Collective, an annual program that supports talented athletes with disabilities to reach the next level in their sport. Learn a little about Thomas: ✨ What’s one thing you love about Snap Fitness Pukekohe? - The supportiveness from the staff. Snap allows me to be independent with my sporting goals and I can also use the treadmill to help improve my running without needing a guide. ✨ What’s something you’re proud of? - The progress I’ve made in the last 6 months not only in the gym but in my overall fitness ✨ What’s one goal you’ve set yourself? - My goal is to represent NZ in the Paralympics as a ski racer Well done Thomas! It’s a pleasure having you with us. Make sure to say hello if you see him in club 👋🏽 by @theblindskiwi
No I can’t see but apparently training is going well 🤷‍♂️ I am gunning to be the first athlete with a vision impairment to represent New Zealand at the Winter Paralympics since the 90s 🎿 @generatekiwisaver #generateyourperformance by @theblindskiwi
Not too much snow in New Zealand over the summer but it’s been a productive off-season. First official half marathon, and I came in at a cruisy 1 hour 57 minutes and still felt like I had plenty in the tank. I’m keen to see how fast I can go in the future. Bring on the next one! 🏃‍♂️ 🥇 💥 by @theblindskiwi
Muay Thai? Muy bien, threw a few haymakers at the coach… at least he saw it coming 🥊 by @theblindskiwi
Thomas Coysh, the blind "skiwi" is carving a Paralympic sports career aiming to represent New Zealand. Thomas's story airs this Sunday 12pm on TVNZ1 and TVNZ+. It will be available to watch internationally on our YouTube channel @AttitudeLive after airing. Made with the support of NZ On Air. 🏔️ Meet Thomas Coysh - the Blind Skiwi chasing Paralympic dreams. Completely blind due to a rare genetic condition, Thomas races down slopes at 80km/h with a guide by his side. His goal? The 2030 Winter Paralympics. His turning point came on a 21-day Outward Bound course, where he discovered just how capable he really was - sailing, navigating, and pushing past limits. Now he trains on Mt Hutt, races internationally, and dreams of making sport more accessible for others. “I never think, ‘That’s impossible.’ I just ask, ‘How can I do this?’” #OutwardBoundNZ #AdaptiveSport by @theblindskiwi
Sightless and Flightless with @theblindskiwi - An epic couple of days getting to guide for you again brother! Been too long! The trust you show me is humbling and the bravery you show is inspiring! - Video text description: The video opens with shots of Harry and Thomas driving up the Mt Hutt access road, there are shots of the mountain in the distance and shots of the sunrise over the Canterbury Plains. The video then cuts to shots of Thomas getting ready to ski, with his face covered by a ski mask, followed by shots of Harry guiding Thomas and the two of them riding the chair. A shot of Thomas talking and then the camera pans to show the slopes of Mt Hutt. The video then cuts to black. Then we see videos of Harry coaching Thomas, Thomas attempts some exercises to improve his skiing, such as side slipping, and 'roller blade turns'. The last video in this sequence shows Thomas doing a C turn before the video cuts to black once more. As the music kicks back in the video opens again with a follow cam shot of Tom doing short turns down Broadway, what follows is a sequence of clips of Thomas skiing around Mt Hutt, varying from short to long turns and sometimes travelling at speed. The last shot with music is one of Tom attempting a standing 180 while Harry laughs in the background. Then follows an extended video of Harry following Thomas as he carves down Broadway. You can hear Harry counting in the background, showing how he guides Thomas when they ski together. The video ends with a decal showing both Harry and Tom's Instagram handles; @H.J.M.SKI and @TheBlindSkiwi. - #adaptiveskiing #VIskiing #blindskiing #skiing #skiingnewzealand #skinz #aotearoa #newzealand #southisland #southernalps #head #headsnownz #KeepsYouSkiing #ToTheKore #Tyroliabindings #HEADChasingBetter #YourMountainIsCalling #PistenBully #SnowGrooming #SnowCat #WinterWork #AlpineOperations #GroomingLife #PerfectPistes by @theblindskiwi
