FILM CLUB: "Same Scene, Different Feeling" 🎬🎷

This week, our students filmed two everyday moments: walking down a hallway and someone at the window. They filmed each one once.

Then we changed one thing: the music.

When we asked why music is one of the most important tools a filmmaker has, Alijah put it simply: "Because it changes the mood of a scene."

Same footage. Same cuts. Two completely different stories. That's where our Film Club journey into jazz and Charlie Christian's legacy begins this term.

Watch both versions. Which one made you nervous? Tell us 1 or 2 in the comments.

MENTAL HEALTH MONDAY: THE GIFT OF GRATITUDE

Gratitude invites us to notice the goodness that exists in our lives, even when things aren't going exactly as planned.

Sometimes we're grateful for big milestones, answered prayers, or exciting opportunities. Other times, gratitude is found in ordinary moments: a peaceful morning, a meaningful conversation, a warm meal, or someone who simply checks on us.

As we recognize National Stress Awareness Day on November 4, we're reminded that stress is part of life, but we can nurture our emotional wellness by recognizing what supports, comforts, and strengthens us.

Gratitude isn't about ignoring pain, pretending everything is good, or minimizing difficult experiences. It's about allowing ourselves to recognize what is meaningful alongside what may be challenging.

We can acknowledge what is difficult while still appreciating what is good.

✨ Weekly Challenge: Notice the Good
Each day this week, identify one thing you're grateful for and why it matters to you. Consider sharing your appreciation with someone who has made a difference in your life.

MENTAL HEALTH MONDAY

Life is more than milestones. It’s the moments we experience, the connections we nurture, and the choices that reflect what matters most.

Living intentionally can start small: show gratitude, extend kindness, set a healthy boundary, or reconnect with someone.

As we conclude our In Pursuit of Life journey, keep discovering purpose, nurturing hope, and taking meaningful steps forward.

✨ Weekly Challenge: Choose one action that reflects your values—and keep practicing it in the coming season.

👟 Student Challenge: Name one thing that matters to you and one small action you can take to show it.

FILM CLUB: "Watch Your Step"

This week in Film Club, our students took a familiar childhood game to another level with their short film, "Watch Your Step". Along the way, they practiced capturing the same scene through different shots—showing how each angle helps tell the story.

A little imagination, a few camera angles, and a room full of young storytellers. We’re making space for creativity, curiosity, and that sense of wonder that asks, “What if?”

MENTAL HEALTH MONDAY

Keep Pursuing Life: Carry Hope Forward

Pursuing life doesn’t mean every day feels easy. It means caring for ourselves, staying connected, seeking support, and remaining open to what’s ahead.

As we reflect on OCD Awareness Week, remember: OCD is more than cleanliness or organization. It can involve unwanted, distressing thoughts and repetitive behaviors or mental rituals that disrupt daily life. OCD is treatable, and support makes a difference.

Our mental health challenges do not determine our worth or diminish our possibilities.

✨ This week’s challenge: Create your Life Compass.
Reflect on these four questions:

🧭 What grounds me?
🧭 Who connects me?
🧭 What gives me hope?
🧭 What am I moving toward?

Keep your answers somewhere you can return to when the journey feels difficult.

Keep pursuing connection. Keep pursuing meaning. Keep pursuing wellness. Keep pursuing hope. Keep pursuing life.

FILM CLUB: "Did You See That?" 🎬👀

This week in Film Club, students explored how timing and small details can build suspense, putting those techniques into practice in their short film, “Did You See That?”

At The Bridge Impact Center, experiences like these open opportunities for students to discover their gifts and put them to work. Taking an idea from imagination to the screen gives them space to collaborate, solve problems, and see what their creativity can become.

BRIDGE MOMENTS

The students taught him how to "Bend", so our site director taught them how to "Dougie. 🕺🏾

After showing him a few moves, they gave him a turn to teach a dance from his generation.

Moments like these help build relationships at The Bridge. Students get to share what they know, adults get to learn alongside them, and an everyday interaction becomes a chance to connect.

Sometimes, belonging starts with taking turns on the dance floor.

BRIDGE BUILDER SPOTLIGHT: BECKY KELLY

Becky Kelly first heard about The Bridge Impact Center on a podcast. After learning about our work, she reached out and asked, “How can I help?”

That question turned into more than three years of service. Becky led Kitchen Boot Camp, one of our most popular classes, where students learned by doing, built culinary skills, and explored new possibilities in the kitchen. She and her husband, Brice, also volunteered at Bridge events.

To the Kelly's, thank you for the time, care, and consistency you gave our students. We’re grateful you chose to be Bridge Builders, and we hope you’re enjoying retirement, Becky!

FILM CLUB: "Ripple Effect" ⏳️

Ripple Effect started with an idea from one of our Film Club students: a time traveler goes into the past with one rule—don’t touch anything. Our crew took that idea and built a short film around what the camera shows, what it holds back, and when the audience gets the reveal. That’s what we love about Film Club: watching a young person’s idea become a story they can bring to life.
