I AM TIRED !!!!!! Tired of seeing the same kind of beauty being glorified — over and over again. From Kashee’s ‘glamorous’ brides to Asiana magazine’s narrow standard, to the endless parade on social media — it’s all starting to feel like a copy-paste fantasy.

Where are the plus-size women? The women with deeper skin tones, textured hair, stretch marks, scars, signs of life? Where are the aunties, the grandmas, the girls in between sizes, the boys who wear kajal, in our communities?

The media keeps trying to convince us that we don’t belong, that we’re not beautiful — unless we shrink ourselves, whiten ourselves, fit into a mould that was never made for us in the first place. That is not the reality of our people. That is not our truth.

We are not too dark. We are not too big. We are not too old. We are not too different. We are everything. And we deserve to see ourselves represented fully, loudly, and proudly.

This ends now. Representation is not a luxury — it’s our right. And if the media won’t reflect us, we’ll reflect ourselves. In all our colours, shapes, ages, and glory.
