FELICIA CURRY — Lemon Pepper Wings in BOWL EP⁣ (@vineyardtheatre/@natblacktheatre/@thenewgroupnyc)⁣
⁣
Two aspiring rappers flirt, smoke, and ride their skateboards through Nazareth Hassan’s unusual dreamscape of a play, Bowl EP, which transformed the Vineyard Theatre into a full-on skatepark earlier this year. Midway through, a third character arrives: Lemon Pepper Wings, a manic anime demon who doesn’t just explode out of one of the characters we’ve been watching—she explodes out of the play itself. “Is y’all ready for a mutha fuckin SHOW?” she asks, as her portrayer, Felicia Curry, jolts us upright and tears through Hassan’s dense monologues. Curry’s thrilling command of the whole space was furious and riveting. I didn’t have a clue what was going on, but I was there for every second. — David Gordon, Editor-in-Chief⁣⁣ by @thefeliciacurry

Felicia, I first got to know your work in DC on some of our greatest stages, for which you’ve been awarded not only one but two Helen Hayes Awards for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Play. Your shapeshifting ability to combine music and character precedes you. You are a true thespian and woman of the stage, and I cannot wait to see more of you in New York City and beyond. It is with great pleasure, honor, and pride that the judges present a Special Citation to FELICIA CURRY, OGHENERO GBAJE, and ESSENCE LOTUS–the ensemble of BOWL EP. by @thefeliciacurry

⭐ The Award for Outstanding Ensemble in a Play - Hayes goes to Merry Wives at Shakespeare Theatre Company.

Congratulations, friends! ❤️ by @thefeliciacurry

✨️WE WON!✨️🏆👑🎊

STC's @shakespeareindc production of MERRY WIVES won OUTSTANDING ENSEMBLE IN A PLAY at the 2026 Helen Hayes Awards held in DC on May 18th 2026.‼️‼️‼️
Adapted by Jocelyn Bioh @jjbioh the production is an effervescent take on Shakespeare's Merry Wives of Windsor, set in a West African Immigrant community in Harlem 🇳🇬 🇬🇭 As a cast, our electricity and chemistry is palpable onstage and off. What a moving acknowledgement of what we knew and know and value💥‼️💥‼️

Here is the full speech delivered with out of breath ELATION and AGAINST THE CLOCK!🫢
Immense and joyous thanks to Theatre Washington for this honor. And massive respect to every one who brought Merry Wives to sparkling life! Simon Godwin and the entire Shakespeare Theatre Company. To our absolutely brilliant director Taylor Reynolds for your power thru kindness and clarity, and Danica for casting these beautiful people!
To our phenomenal crew— that beautiful set, dope hair, gorgeous wardrobe, because we looked damn good!—and to every audience member who came to see it all. To every assistant and associate. THANK YOU!
Jocelyn Bioh for masterfully adapting 400-year-old text to a West African immigrant context in Harlem. And to our singular, resplendent cast—we are bonded and deserving and we prove Black bodies express this work with vibrancy, hilarity, and LOVE!
Finally, let our production remind you: joy is vital to Black resilience. When we were told to labor, we sang. Told to cry, we chanted. Told to suffer, we danced. DO NOT leave joy out of our stories!
THANK YOU!
