“Tools of Oppression / Rule by Deception” is the new full length album by The Hope Conspiracy. The album was engineered by Kurt Ballou and Zach Weeks at God City Studios. Artwork for the release was created by acclaimed artist Alexander Heir (Death/Traitors).

This is true sonic violence aimed at political division, economic manipulation, war profiteering, media propaganda and other vile forms of global oppression.

Air raid sirens wail as the foreboding “Those Who Gave Us Yesterday” and “The Prophets and Doom” explode forth like burning shrapnel. The hell ride continues with “A Struggle For Power” and “Live In Fear”, two vicious blasts supercharged with malice and contempt. “Shock By Shock” and “Of A Dying Nation” introduce doom and gloom heaviness, grinding down the tempo to a mid-paced barrage. “Confusion/Chaos/Misery” picks up the pace, going scorched-earth policy on the sociopolitical nightmares that ensnare us all while “Broken Vessels” plows into overdrive about mental illness and addiction as a whole. This leads to “The West Is Dead” a dystopian hook laden hardcore anthem, and epic closer “The Specter Looms”; An ominous soundtrack to the steady decline of our modern age.

There is no question, The Hope Conspiracy is back to make a cold hard statement about existence in the end times.

Every Time I Die was maybe the first other young band we played with all the time in our earliest days. We were both road dogs, and somehow they impressively stayed road dogs nearly twenty years longer than we did.

We didn’t know much other than we liked hanging out with those guys and it was awesome to play with another likeminded young band that also wanted to play as often and as hard as humanly possible. It didn’t matter if it was a bookstore, a cafe, a theater, a basement, a dive bar, a VFW, and on and on…to have that camaraderie and the memories from those days is just priceless.

No matter where we were, with any lineup of our band, at any point in time, Andy was ready to light up a conversation, throw down some riffs, throw one of us over his shoulder, or anything else that would’ve made anyone’s day just a little bit better. It’s just what kind of guy he was.

These flyers are from the first winter weekend we did with ETID, early in 2000. Getting to know Andy at that time for us was truly a gift. His warmth is something you just never forget, and we’re all at least a little bit better for having that in our lives.

Lots of love to Andy’s closest friends and family. Thank you for sharing him with all of us for so long.

LONG LIVE ANDY WILLIAMS.

THE BUTCHER.

Some picks of the week for you! An album that’s taken the shop by storm from Ripped To Shreds with ‘Sanshi’. A classic from The Acacia Strain and the aural equivalent of a kick in the head from The Hope Conspiracy. What’s your bag here? Let us know… by @thehopeconspiracy

Spin Of Today
The Hope Conspiracy – True Nihilist (Deathwish 2009, Clear Gold col.)
Three songs. Nine minutes. Absolutely no wasted space.
True Nihilist turned out to be the last new Hope Conspiracy release for almost 14 years. After this little blast of pure aggression, the band simply went quiet — until finally returning with Confusion/Chaos/Misery in 2023.
And the packaging is pretty damn great too — the cover folds out into a beautiful poster.
