On Pause, With Love After five beautiful, chaotic, art and design filled collaborative issues, we’re taking a break from publishing The Irregular Times. What started as a side-project grew into something far bigger — a love letter to print, to design that doesn’t play by the rules, and to the joy of making things with our hands, hearts, and minds. Every issue was a risk, an experiment, a conversation in form and content — and we’re endlessly grateful to everyone who read, contributed, collected, and shared it. For now, we’re pressing pause. But all past editions are still available on our website for anyone who missed them (or wants to gift them to a fellow print nerd) We hope to return — refreshed, recharged, and ready to create again as soon as we can. Until then, thank you for believing in us and the power of print!! ♥️ — The Irregulars by @theirregulartimes

The Irregular Times is an independent print newspaper born from a desire for unfiltered opinions, fresh perspectives, and collaboration beyond traditional structures of power and privilege. Working at the intersection of art, media, activism, politics, and contemporary culture, it champions Indian vernacular, design, and community-led storytelling. Rooted in a love for print and all things handmade, the publication invites you to read it, question it, cut it up, frame it, and make it your own. It’s a celebration of zine culture, accessible expression, and the tactile joy of holding something real in a screen-saturated world. Writer, translator, (and contributor to Issue 2 of The Irregular Times) @deepabhasthi has won the International Booker Prize. Bhasthi is the first Indian translator to ever win this award. She wins alongside Banu Mushtaq for her work selecting and translating ‘Heart Lamp’, a collection of short stories by Mushtaq. A selection of 12 from the over 50 written by Banu Mushtaq over a course of 30 years, ‘Heart Lamp’ is the first collection of short stories to ever win the International Booker Prize. It is also the first work written originally in Kannada to win. The translation has been lauded as a celebration of the “movement from one language to another” by the judges of the Booker Prize. In an interview with Scroll.in, Deepa Bhasti says, “the aim of translation, especially in former colonies like ours where English is acquired along with a complicated baggage, should never be to write in “proper” English. When one translates, the aim is to introduce the reader to new words, in this case, Kannada or to new thoughts that come loaded with the hum of another language. I call it translating with an accent, which reminds the reader that they are reading a work set in another culture, without exoticising it, of course. So the English in Heart Lamp is an English with a very deliberate Kannada hum to it.” 🤝🏽 https://www.theirregulartimes.com/issue02/ #tirt #booker #bookerprize #artanddesign by @theirregulartimes
