We’re in major tour withdrawal so it’s time to bust out aaaaall the clips and snaps! Here’s some dress rehearsal footage of La Barcheta, the stunning song by Reynaldo Hahn arranged by @tom_poster and — we’re just gonna say it — sung BETTER THAN ANYONE IN THE WORLD by @thekarimsulayman! Thank you @capitalregionclassical for hosting us in your beautiful @unioncollege venue on April 27 🙏🏽

From the not so distant past, here’s @seanstshibe and my encore from our concert at @celebrityseries in November 2023. Thanks to @taneygirl for bringing us and to this beautiful audience who received us so warmly. This song has grown to mean so much to us. It’s a song of grief and of comfort. So much grief in the world. We need so much comfort. And happy birthday, dear Miguelito. ❤️‍🩹

Cucurrucucú Paloma

Dicen que por las noches
no más se le iba en puro llorar;

cucurrucucú no llores.
Las piedras jamás, paloma,
qué van a saber de amores

They say through every nighttime
he was purely a flowing river of tears;
they say he wasn’t eating,
but drinking to drown out the pain that so sears.
They swear that even the night skies
shudder with pity to his sad wails and sharp cries,
for her, oh he was suffering,
and vainly calls out past the death where she now lies.

Ay, ay, ay, ay, ay he’s singing,
ay, ay, ay, ay, ay he’s moaning.
Ay, ay, ay, ay, ay, he’s singing,
and from mortal passion dying.

A dove sad and lonesome
at dawn its song will be cooed for your ears,
the cottage still is waiting
with wide open doors emptying fears.
They swear that dove cooing
is surely the very soul of your darling,
that is still so sweetly awaiting
her return to his love never-ending.

Cucurrucucú dove,
cucurrucucú no crying.
The stones we walk on,
they will never know about our love.

60 Hz in Louisville. 50 Hz in Sofia.

In "Two Clinics," The American waits for test results under fluorescent lights, and the scene cuts between the clinic in Sofia where he sits and the memory of one in Louisville, where he grew up. David T. Little (@davidtlittle) needed a fast way to tell you which room you're in, so he tuned the scene to the lights themselves: the 60-cycle hum of American current and the 50-cycle hum of Europe's. The two pitches sit a minor third apart but don't conform to standard musical tuning, so the ensemble has to tune to them. As the music drifts from one to the other, the buzz tells you where you are.

"We were nothing but words. The best of me was words."

Before they ever met, they talked. Two boys from the same city who loved the same writers, introduced by friends, on the phone for months. This scene from "What Belongs to You" begins there, with the narrator looking back on K. and on a time when a voice was all either of them had of the other.

The video for "The best of me was words." is out now, with @thekarimsulayman and Alarm Will Sound, conducted by @alanconducts. Full video at the link in bio.

Two years ago today we brought What Belongs to You into the world, and in the year and a half that followed, we worked tirelessly to bring the live album to life. Making both were labors of love for all of us, and I’m so grateful for everyone who gave their blessing, their passion, and their love to make it happen! I’m immensely proud of both the album and the show, which I can’t wait to bring to NYC this spring at the @nyuskirballcenter ! In the meantime, have a listen here https://orcd.co/whatbelongstoyou - and Happy Birthday What Belongs to You!
