When I was in high school, I spent my summers volunteering at the @ncrmuseum. This week I got to attend its 35th @freedomaward at the @orpheummemphis, and whew…. what a night of black excellence! I left so inspired.

Congratulations to the honorees: Fred Gray, @shavonarlinebradley, @bakarisellers and @nnekaogwumike. You reminded me there is always MORE work to do for our culture and our people.

Thank you Linda for having me, and @enaesco for the interview and all the love. To everyone I hugged that night, it was so good to see you. 🖤

I remember praying last year on Mother’s Day that I would someday be a mother. After being diagnosed with #endometriosis in 2017, I had so many doctors doubt that I could have a child naturally and recommended alternative ways of having children. It was at that point that I knew the road to motherhood wasn’t going to be an easy one. And, it wasn’t.
It took 8 months of strict bed rest, 1 month in the hospital and an emergency c-section to get my baby girl here. It was all worth it. I didn’t realize it at the time but I was being prepared and tested. My path to becoming a mother was about having more strength, patience, trusting the process and believing that anything is possible - which is what I’m learning now, is the foundation of motherhood.
So before the day ends, I acknowledge and celebrate women who are mothers, mothers to be and those aspiring to be a mother. Because with faith, patience, strength and endurance... anything is possible. Women are magical. Happy Mother’s Day! ✨ by @enaesco
