We headed for a family getaway to nearby @hotelgarryvoe . It’s situated about 15 minutes from Youghal on the coastline & there is lots to do for adults and smallies too.
.
.
The kids loved exploring the hotel, ther are lots of fairy doors dotted around the hotel for kids to find, a heated pool and a playground across the road, along with a gorgeous beach for walks or a sauna.
.
.
The staff were great ( you can tell they are used to welcoming kids and made them feel like very spci guests) and the food was 👌. As vegetarians, we can sometimes be the token pasta or risotto but there are lots of veggie options for kids and adults for both dinner and breakfast.
.
.
@hotelgarryvoe are offering 10% off a 2 night stay ( B&B inc dinner on one night) using the code: Lighthouse10 for October, November and December. ( code is valid for one week from today for the next ten bookings ✨)
.
.
The incredible Hugh Wallace designed the bar & restaurant area & its magnificent, as was all his work 🤍
.
.
So, for anyone thinking of a breakaway @hotelgarryvoe is a great option for a relaxed break, with lots to do in and around East Cork.

#youghal #superhost #lighthouse #irishsea #hightide by @thelighthousekeepsher

When people come to the keepers for a break away, they sometimes want to move their bodies a little, stretch the legs, embrace the Irish Sea or just sweat a little.
.
.
I recently asked for your recommendations for guests coming to Youghal and the overall theme was movement.
.

.
So if you’re coming to the keepers for a stay & move a little, here’s our recommendations:
1. Jump in the sea at high tide at the divers ( beneath the keepers) or join our wonderful group of daily sea swimmers around 9am out the front strand ( @youghal_sea_swimmers )
2. Join the local park run ( 5KM) every Saturday morning at Pobalscoil ( all abilities are welcome)
3. You can get a day pass at @youghallawntennisclub and book a court to have a game or two during your stay
4. If #hyrox or #crossfit are your thing, then there is a top class crew and coaches at @bodyarmouryoughal with several classes every day ( except Sunday) you’ll find me here as often as I can - super box!
5. Knockadoon cliff walk - it’s about a 15 minute drive and will be guaranteed to blow away the cobwebs
6. We have a 5KM boardwalk on the doorstep of the keepers - great for long walks, chats and clearing the head
7. The Youghal to Midleton greenway recently opened on the old rail tracks. It’s a gorgeous route and you can rent bikes from @youghalbikerental
8. Finally, sometimes we just workout for the treat at the end right? 😉 You can get a great iced matcha at @rojobakeryanddeli to cool down after
.
.
.
And so there you have it, lots of ways to get out and stay active during your stay 💫
.
.
Feel free to tag or mention any other activities I might have missed 🩵

The lighthouse has been going through a glow up the last few months, sandblasted back to the original stone work that was set in place over 200 years ago. All the layers and layers of paint taken off.
.
.
All those hands that carefully painted it over the centuries, the times they were living in, the worries they had, the lives they helped save with this incredible beacon.
.
.
It’s freshly painted and looking immaculate, as it should be ✨👌
.
.
.
Credit goes to talented local photographer, John Finn @carrigman for capturing this beautiful shot 👌

Getting consistent five star reviews is not something we take for granted 😌
.
.
Buzzing to be recognised as a superhost by @airbnb for the sixth year running 🥳
.
.
We are relentless in ensuring the house is in tip top shape for all our guests and that they have the best time relaxing and recharging or exploring Youghal and the local area.
.
.
Thanks to all the legendary guests who have crossed our threshold this last year 🙏🏻

Anyone else need a break from the never ending distractions and asks that come from that small little device? 🙌🏻
.
.
We have introduced a digital detox box for you to physically lock your phone into 😅 while you’re getting some R&R at the keepers 🙏🏻
.
.
I asked my talented cousin Pat @blackwater_woods_ie to make a simple box, and he went above and beyond with creating a micro scene of the keepers in epoxy on the lid. It’s a side hustle he has but he’s able to turn his hand to any kind of wood creation! ⭐️
.
.
So there you have it, sometimes the best way to recharge is to actually unplug from the pulls of our phones 😶‍🌫️

For lots of guests coming to the keepers, it’s their first time coming to Youghal.
.
I’ve pulled together some things guests love doing during their stay: Live summertime concerts in a 600 year old church, checking out our museums, a sauna and a dip on our blue flag beach, a creamy pint and some live music and a browse around our Saturday farmers market.
.
.
What other hot spots should guests visit? Anyone have any fav things to do in Youghal? Would love to hear in the comments💭 #youghal #staycation #lighthouse #airbnb #travelgram by @thelighthousekeepsher

Ain’t that the truth?
.
.
.
It’s coming on eight years this summer since we fully renovated a very tired old lighthouse keepers house.
.
.
The house pulled people together for the Reno, that I never knew possible. Everyone got involved and rolled up their sleeves, it was a whole lot of fun.
.
.
.
Since then, we have welcomed guests from all four corners of the world and from only a few hundred metres away too ( so many locals holiday here a few times a year!). If I was to guess, I’d say we have welcomed about 6,000 people through the doors in that time ( it’s probably more, I’m lowballing! ).
.
.
At the time, I know a few of my pals thought I had legit lost it. I was living in London, no notion of moving home and here I was buying a run down lighthouse keepers house. Has I fully lost it they wondered? 🤪
.
.
Fast forward eight years, and I can honestly say it was one of the very best decisions I have ever in my life made. Just thinking about the keepers makes my heart swell. The joy it has brought to so so many people - I honestly never imagined the peace and happiness crossing through that front door would bring to so many.
.
.
So, indeed, if you never try, you will never know 💫 #youghal #lighthouse #staycation #travelgram #reno by @thelighthousekeepsher
