Images are from NAIDOC 2025: ‘Warami’ at Burramatta [Parramatta].

Slideshow features some of the drawcard performers last year;
Kee’ahn, a Kuku Yalanji, Jirrbal, and Torres Strait Islandersinger, songwriter, musician from North Queensland, currently based in Melbourne. @kee.ahn

Majeda Beatty, a prominent First Nations singer, 2025 Australian Idol contestant, dancer, dance instructor, actress, and cultural educator/presenter, of a Wuthathi mother from Far North Queensland, Torres Strait Islander roots, and an African American father.

Warami (“Wah-ra-mee”) means “good to see you” in Dharug, and is the City of Parramatta’s annual “campaign” honouring traditional and contemporary First Nations culture, especially the People of Burramatta, who have been custodians of the area for about 60,000 years.

According to their website, “the campaign” highlights their “ongoing commitment to acknowledging, respecting, and elevating First Nations voices.”
The Burramatta NAIDOC outdoor festival is on Saturday 11 July.” - @atparramatta
_________

NAIDOC stands for "National Aborigines and Islanders Day Observance Committee".
The acronym was originally for the committee responsible for organizing national events but over time it has become the commonly used name for the entire nationwide festival.

NAIDOC is a deliberate and defiant celebration of Culture and Country, history and truth. It is a beautiful “f*ck you’ to the institutions that deride the message but ride the bandwagons when there’s money to be made. – Sandhya Nand. Publisher.

PUBLISHER'S LOG: July 7, 2026

Scrolling through old folders, found these photos and motion picture clips from one of our trips Outback, this one in 2021.
A short, semi narrated, photo-video story is on the TLOOD channel.
This is just a flashback.

Photos taken on Wilyakali Country, Umberumberka, named Silverton in 1880.

[I have been travelling Outback since I went to boarding school in Queensland in the 80s, and flying over this sacred Red Land since I was a child.
Stories for another time.]

ALIGN YOUR EYES:

I realised that the only tube of mascara I had was about... far too many years old, and I was in the mood to accentuate my gaze.

[For the interested: When I do use mascara, I only apply to my outer lashes to elongate my eyeline.
I also apply kajal to my upper waterline to 'fill' the lashline, just to define.]

I originally just wanted KOHL, which I was incorrectly calling "Surma" [the latter by the way, is slow poison], so my Husband made a mini fire pit using an Omani majmar [frankincense burner] and a fire of ghee and almonds.
He then collected the soot from under one clay pot for KOHL and by experimentation and alchemy, made KAJAL. Ghee and almond kajal. Silkyyyyyyy. And ohhh the benefits... and yes, also a conditioning mascara. Not smudgeproof but... like a smudge for your eyes.
[Kajal's original use]

As we burn this tisane in all our purifiers, we also use our home made ghee candles for them [with cotton wicks stuck into recycled wick tabs from old tea lights] not just for the KOHL, also because we are sick of poisoners and profiteers and paraffin wax.

I have developed a mental allergy to anything synthetic in my optics.

Recent tests show that most eyeliner products do contain high amounts of lead despite it being illegal and oh, BAD.
[Full article with history, etymology, origins, benefits, kajal and tisane recipes and links in @the.stylander Feb issue].

PS. I remember my Mother would place a [what is called a cane knife in Fiji but more commonly known as a] machete over a perpetual [pooja] fire pit for Her kohl.

We are staycationing. Home-idaying. Not moving far from home. "Holy day"-ing, which is what "holiday" originally meant until they figured out how to make profit out of prophets. Ah but I give rest the facts that sound like friction in an OVERwhelmed world.

We live a simple and beautiful life, we create and love and respect and believe and have faith even when the world burns. Especially when the world burns. Don't let "realists" rob you of the truth of hope. Hope sustains life.

Sustainable healing is our personal goal and to get to that point you've got to go through rehab for the brain, which feels like, hmm, Mortal (Mental) Kombat All Stars boot camp.
Only the self honest survive.

We work at/from home, we need clear mental doorways to walk through and clear mental doors to shut, in order to actually have a rest, otherwise we're idling. Stressing our engines, leaving us less able to do what we need to not just what we have to.

We are allowing ourselves an absolute break from the constant stress of being our own employers [on top of personal trauma healing].
There are many advantages of being self employed but the stress of LIFE IN 2025 negated many.
Forced a shift. A cycle has come full circle.

Ground yourself.

[This doesn't mean "stand your ground". That shit forces tension, triggers trauma and adrenaline overdose. It's time to stop being so territorial. Change starts one person at a time.]

My Husband reminds us to drop our heels.
Close your eyes.
Drop your heels.
Exhale.
Ground yourself.
Feel what happens.
Ground yourself. Be ready. Fly. It's a breeze.

[This favourite piece is 'Suite Andalucía' by Cuban composer, Ernesto Lecuona, composed in 1933, performed by @pinkmartini from their 1997 album, 'Sympathique'.] by @thelivesofourdays

This morning at home... it felt like everything will be alright, that everything is, could be if we let it, so I started singing an old song from an old musical... written from a Eurogaze hence the description of the casting of Judas.

Everyone creates divinity in their image. It's when that projected image is forced upon others is where the problem starts.

The truth is all inside you.
